President Biden Has Released More than 1,000,000 Illegal Aliens Into the United States

It’s no longer a secret – or even disputed fact – that the Biden administration has created the worst border crisis ever experienced in American history. As a result, we are seeing unprecedented encounters (formerly called apprehensions) at the Southern border. In April, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) encountered 234,088 illegal aliens at the Southern border – breaking the agency’s previous record of 223,305 set in March of 2000. That record was broken again just one month later with 239,416 encounters in May.
Even more troubling is that the Biden administration continues to freely release tens of thousands of these immigration lawbreakers each month. In May, the administration freed 95,318 illegal aliens into the country’s interior, bringing the total number of releases during the Biden administration up to 1,049,532. This figure does not include those illegal aliens who entered the country by legal means then overstay the terms of their visa, or those who remain in the country after their lawful status is revoked.
Since the Biden administration’s (potentially unlawful) deportation priorities protect nearly all illegal aliens from removal, it stands to reason that the vast majority of those who are released into the country will reside here for as long as they wish. And, according to FAIR’s most recent illegal alien population update, most are indeed opting to stay in the country. FAIR’s latest iteration of this report found that the illegal alien population in the United States grew by approximately 1 million in 2021 alone. So far in 2022, this population is growing at an even faster rate.
There is little to suggest that this trend will change in the near future, either. In recent years, the summer months have been a “busy season” for migrants attempting to illegally enter the United States.
Moreover, President Biden continues his push to end the use of Title 42 as an effective and lawful mechanism to quickly remove illegal aliens from the country. Even though a federal judge has temporarily stopped the administration from terminating the program, CBP is still removing fewer migrants under Title 42 in recent months. If the President is successful in ultimately scrapping the program, the Department of Homeland Security estimates that the number of monthly encounters at the southern border would likely increase by at least 100 percent. This means that apprehension numbers could exceed 500,000 per month.
The infrastructure of this nation cannot handle such a surge of unplanned migration. Every day that these reckless policies remain in place, the United States crosses yet another Rubicon, with American citizens bearing the heavy price tag. And the infuriating part is that it’s completely optional. If the Biden administration so desired, they could re-instate proven policies that would end this crisis immediately. However, since the administration has shown that they have no interest in solving this crisis, FAIR and a coalition of other voices for true immigration reform are now calling on Congress to take back control of the southern border by passing a series of reforms that would reinstate law and order at the border, and disincentives future illegal immigration.
