Position Primary Objective
With the support of the Director of Advancement, the Digital Engagement Coordinator will take part in an exciting new effort to build and execute a national digital organizing strategy to engage FAIR’s sizable online membership with educational resources and activation opportunities.
The Digital Engagement Coordinator will work hand-in-hand with both the Government Relations and State & Local Departments to design national multi-channel campaigns that recruit activists, pressure lawmakers, raise awareness about immigration reform and expand FAIR’s overall national public reach. Within the Advancement Team, the person in this position will work to build a ladder of engagement that incorporates digital activism into FAIR’s overall membership and fundraising program (i.e. direct mail, social media, digital ads and online fundraising), with the goal of establishing a consistent and sustainable digital engagement strategy that scales our activist program and expands our donor base.
Major Responsibilities
- Coordinating efforts between legislative and membership departments to design and implement impactful multi-channel campaigns that engage our national membership of donors, activists, and volunteers and ensure alignment across FAIR’s digital and traditional organizing platforms;
- Drafting, planning and deploying digital organizing campaigns using form building platforms including event sign-ups and targeted action pages, SMS text messaging, email marketing, social media groups and list building capabilities to meet digital organizing goals;
- Working with organizational leadership to set metrics and goals around member engagement and volunteer activation, ensuring FAIR members are activated and ascending a ladder of engagement that provides value to the organization and our movement; and
- Assisting in the integration of FAIR’s other organizing initiatives including rapid response opportunities, media and digital communications and boots-on-the-ground field strategies both nationally and in target states.
Other Responsibilities
- Coordinating the email marketing schedule with the Direct Response Marketing Manager and assisting in the drafting and layout of fundraising email appeals;
- Providing email marketing support for the Advancement Department, including layout for a variety of email educational resources such as FAIR Take, Newsletter, Press Releases, etc.;
- Coordinating with the Social Media Strategist to identify and leverage new digital engagement tools and opportunities within social media platforms; and
- Staying up-to-date on Federal and State & Local policy priorities, proposals and legislative goals, in order to identify opportunities for engagement and assist in drafting emails and other policy focused digital engagement materials.
Qualifications
- Strong support for and alignment with FAIR’s mission
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience in a digital engagement role, specifically digital or email marketing, online advocacy, field organizing or fundraising work, preferably with a non-profit, agency or political campaign – (internship experience is considered!)
- Proven record of success designing and launching cross-channel advocacy campaigns that incorporate web, email, social media, and press components and offer members and supports meaningful ways to activate and engage
Skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meeting frequent deadlines;
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with demonstrated success communicating complex political issues to diverse audiences;
- Proficient at analyzing digital campaign data and using results to communicate program success, build recommendations and adapt campaign strategies; and
- Ability to set goals, track progress and provide consistent reports to leadership.

Executive Assistant

About this Position
FAIR’s President seeks a highly organized Executive Assistant to support daily fundraising, marketing and digital communications efforts. This role demands strong coordination, problem solving and team building skills, along with excellent attention to detail and an ability to change tasks quickly.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, political science or relevant field; at least seven years of professional work experience, preferably on Capitol Hill
- Must have event planning and board liaison experience
- Work experience as a project administrator, coordinator or similar role
- Stellar organizational skills; must be able to track proposals, letters and contracts as well as project deadlines
- Highly proficient in writing, editing and proofreading
- Experience with fundraising or grant proposals, a plus
- Professional maturity and strong communication skills
- Ability to balance the needs of multiple internal stakeholders and enforce deadlines when necessary
- Experience with project management software (Trello, Asana, Microsoft Project), donor database CRMs, online engagement tools, a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Main Responsibilities
- Schedule, organize and attend project meetings; record decisions and changes
- Break projects into doable tasks and set timeframes and goals
- Create and update workflows and processes for managing project timelines; track deadlines and follow up with team members to ensure tasks are completed
- Create and manage project calendar
- Track, file and organize duplicate copies of documents related to projects
- Provide administrative support as needed; editing and proofreading fundraising or marketing content, etc
- Manage the President’s calendar, travel and events
- Manage event and travel planning for board meetings and other events

Junior Researcher
Join a team of dedicated professionals at a dynamic time in the immigration reform movement, as the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) seeks a Junior Researcher to provide support to the Director of Research and the Researcher/Staff Writer by locating, summarizing, and providing baseline analysis of relevant legal, political, historical, policy, and economic data.
Major Responsibilities:
- Collects and assembles data from various sources including libraries, government repositories, online databases, and news publications.
- Tracks studies and other analyses produced by major research organizations conducting research on immigration.
- Conducts initial analysis of data to determine its appropriateness for use in FAIR publications.
- Summarizes data for Director of Research and other Research team members.
- Produces basic cited content for inclusion in reports, analyses, and issue briefs.
- Updates existing publications with new data.
- Compiles bibliographies and chronologies; writes briefing memos; prepares notes on meetings and conferences; creates and maintains spreadsheets and databases.
- Assists other departments with basic research requests, as indicated by the Director of Research.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications
The ideal candidate possesses:
- Minimum 0-3 years of experience as an entry-level researcher in an academic or journalistic setting.
- Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in the fields of political science, public policy, social science (e.g. sociology, history, communications, law/justice/society, philosophy), or economics (e.g. economics, econometrics, politics/philosophy/economics).
- Demonstrated experience conducting academic research.
- Experience writing in academic, journalistic, and general-audience styles.
- Familiarity with academic, legal, legislative, economic, historical, and journalistic research practices.
- Track record of high integrity, good judgement, and diplomacy
Skills
- Superb writing, editing and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to present complex concepts in terms non-specialized audiences can understand.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills focused on consensus building.
- Ability to work independently to solve logistical problems related to assigned tasks.
- Self-starter, self-motivated.
- Flexibility necessary to adjust to changing priorities while still producing high quality work product.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with statistical software (SPSS, STATA, RStudio, etc) and coding (R, python) a plus.

FAIR’s Advancement Department is a 360-degree outreach and marketing operation that includes both comprehensive fundraising and educational marketing and digital technologies for all other programmatic departments at every level of the organization.

What we are looking for in a candidate:
- Strong commitment to FAIR’s mission and demonstrated interest in immigration policy, history and U.S. politics; a strong desire to learn about or develop immigration policy
- Proficiency in writing, reading, editing and proofreading for a variety of communications, which may include: letters, emails, social media posts, blogs, issue briefs and fact sheets, reports and proposals
- Ability to work in all areas of membership communications. This department oversees: direct mail, phone calls, thank you notes, graphics, emails, newsletters, alerts, petitions, polls, sign-up forms, video briefings and social media posts
- Desire to learn about fundraising, development and digital technology trends in the political and non-profit sector (prior experience a plus)
- Enthusiastic, independent, creative and critical thinking skills; positivity and a willingness to work hard and apply new ideas in a controversial area of public policy
Qualifications
- A proven track-record of high performance in academics, internships, fellowships or prior work experience
- Educational background in the liberal arts, history, politics, public policy, public administration, public relations or communications, marketing or any other relevant areas
- Strong letters of recommendation from former employers or academic professors
- An excellent writing sample showcasing an ability to expertly communicate ideas
- Skills or demonstrated interest in any of the following areas: fundraising, grant writing, major donor communications, grassroots activism, email marketing, web design, video or graphic arts, web content writing, social media, advertising, digital marketing, project management, event planning
