Full-Time Positions
Communications Director
(Hybrid Schedule)
Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), America’s largest immigration reform group, advocates for enforcement and controls serving our nation’s interest. We’re looking for an energetic, do-it-all communications professional who can collaboratively develop and implement FAIR’s messaging, media, and communications strategy to educate and influence public opinion to advance true immigration reform.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as a key spokesperson for FAIR; proactively and effectively communicates FAIR’s mission and position on a wide range of immigration-related policies.
- Creates and executes a strategy for expanding FAIR’s media outreach through print, radio, and television; assists with social media outreach.
- Serves as primary contact for all media inquiries. Determines who will respond. In some instances, the Communications Director will respond directly as an authorized spokesperson.
- Maintains constant awareness and understanding of local, state, and national immigration issues and internal program activities and priorities.
- Rapidly identifies and acts on opportunities for FAIR to generate news coverage, whether proactively or in reaction to external events.
- Assists with editing, writing, and distributing press releases, opinion pieces, and blogs; writes and edits weekly newsletter sent to targeted media members.
- Ensures that FAIR media is posted correctly on the website and ready for social media distribution by working with the Digital department.
- Tracks media appearances and develops metrics to analyze the effectiveness of outreach strategies and develop opportunities for improvement.
- Develops and maintains trusted relationships with key members of the media.
- Develops and maintains trusted relationships with media colleagues in like-minded organizations and on Capitol Hill.
- Evaluates and maintains department vendor relationships. Serves as primary contact for communications vendors.
- Stays abreast of all trends in the communications field.
- Organizes, reviews, and updates media databases.
- Manages and updates the department’s page in SharePoint.
- With staff assistance, gathers and distributes daily news clips across the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications/Media or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in Communications/Media or a related field; experience in public policy preferred.
- Vision for developing and executing complex, proactive media strategies.
- Ability to develop talent and manage a professional communications department; managerial experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, maturity, and sound judgment.
- Exceptional oral communication skills; ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to non-experts.
- Exceptional writing skills; experience composing professional quality op-eds, blogs, and publications.
- Superior aptitude to confidently and effectively appear on television, radio programs, and in print media.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Skill at pitching concepts and stories to media contacts.

Legislative Manager
(Hybrid Schedule)
Join a team of dedicated professionals at a dynamic time in the immigration reform movement at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the largest immigration reform group that advocates for enforcement and border controls.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze state and local legislation, ordinances, and policy changes
- Draft and adapt model legislation for use at the state and local level
- Draft legislative summaries and policy briefs for a variety of audiences
- Work with other departments to identify, inform, and mobilize FAIR’s members and educate the public on critical pieces of legislation
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with legislators, legislative staff, advocacy groups, and supporters
- Develop an expertise in immigration law, policy, and politics
- Represent FAIR in coalitions, public meetings, hearings, press events, conferences, national forums, and in general communications with state and local public officials
- Assist FAIR’s departments with tasks relating to education, development, publications, and media coverage
- Be a committed and effective advocate for all of FAIR’s programs and objectives
Qualifications:
- J.D. required. Barred in a State or District of Columbia preferred
- Legislative analyzing and drafting experience is an absolute must
- Political judgment and sensitivity required
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Ability to conduct original research and analyze data
- Other relevant experience with public policy, education, grassroots organizing, communications, editing, and/or development

Mid-Level Information Technology Administrator
(Hybrid Schedule)
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) in Washington, D.C., seeks a Mid-Level Information Technology Administrator supporting the Director of Information Technology.
Responsibilities:
- Installation and configuration of Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2022 in a virtual environment
- Active directory- adding users, unlocking user accounts
- VPN configuration and remote desktop
- Configuration of Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Provide network/computer assistance to FAIR/IRLI staff
- Train users on security awareness
- Apply Patches - servers, windows desktops, and annual updates of security software
- Security review - security cloud reports, web usage reports, server health analyzer scans, utilize security tools, monitor network
- File system security - run audit reports, manage alerts on file access, utilize security tools to prevent breaches
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems & Network Administration, Information Technology, or Information Systems
- 3+ years of work experience
- Knowledge of the current Windows operating systems (Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019)
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office on-premise applications
- Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server – a plus, but not required
- Experience supporting staff; troubleshooting/help desk

Government Relations Intern
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) in Washington, D.C., seeks an Intern to assist the Government Relations Department.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies, tracks, and analyzes federal legislation and regulations
- Monitors and reports on Congressional committee activities and hearings
- Completes complex research and writing assignments on a variety of immigration-related topics
- Contributes substantive materials for dissemination on FAIR’s website, blog, and to FAIR members, including legislative summaries and weekly updates, grassroots alerts, and fact sheets
- Works with the Director to represent FAIR in meetings with Congressional staff, executive officials, and coalition members
- Advocates for all FAIR’s programs and objectives
Qualifications:
- A current or recent graduate of an accredited university in political science
- Strong research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Must have a keen eye for detail
- Ability to set priorities and produce materials in a timely manner
- Superb interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong commitment to FAIR’s mission
Work Schedule: Up to 24 hours a week, not to exceed 1,000 a year, Tuesday-Thursday, during core in-office business hours.
This position is located at FAIR’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. It is a part-time/seasonal, non-exempt position.
