Full-Time Positions
Communications Director
Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), America’s largest immigration reform group, advocates for enforcement and controls serving our nation’s interest. We’re looking for an energetic, do-it-all communications professional who can collaboratively develop and implement FAIR’s messaging, media, and communications strategy to educate and influence public opinion to advance true immigration reform.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as a key spokesperson for FAIR; proactively and effectively communicates FAIR’s mission and position on a wide range of immigration-related policies.
- Creates and executes a strategy for expanding FAIR’s media outreach through print, radio, and television; assists with social media outreach.
- Serves as primary contact for all media inquiries. Determines who will respond. In some instances, Communications Director will respond directly as an authorized spokesperson.
- Maintains constant awareness and understanding of local, state, and national immigration issues and internal program activities and priorities.
- Rapidly identifies and acts on opportunities for FAIR to generate news coverage, whether proactively or in reaction to external events.
- Assists with editing, writing, and distributing press releases, opinion pieces, and blogs; writes and edits weekly newsletter sent to targeted media members.
- Ensures that FAIR media is posted correctly on the website and ready for social media distribution by working with the Digital department.
- Tracks media appearances and develops metrics to analyze the effectiveness of outreach strategies and develop opportunities for improvement.
- Develops and maintains trusted relationships with key members of the media.
- Develops and maintains trusted relationships with media colleagues in like-minded organizations and on Capitol Hill.
- Evaluates and maintains department vendor relationships. Serves as primary contact for communications vendors.
- Stays abreast of all trends in the communications field.
- Organizes, reviews, and updates media databases.
- Manages and updates the department’s page in SharePoint.
- With staff assistance, gathers and distributes daily news clips across the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications/Media or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in Communications/Media or a related field; experience in public policy preferred.
- Vision for developing and executing complex, proactive media strategies.
- Ability to develop talent and manage a professional communications department; managerial experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, maturity, and sound judgment.
- Exceptional oral communication skills; ability effectively communicate complex ideas to non-experts.
- Exceptional writing skills; experience composing professional quality op-eds, blogs, and publications.
- Superior aptitude to confidently and effectively appear on television, radio programs, and in print media.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Skill at pitching concepts and stories to media contacts.

Major Gifts Officer
Position Primary Objective: The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for working with FAIR’s President and Advancement Team to develop relationships with foundations and individual major donors. The Officer will be responsible for identifying, researching, and cultivating a portfolio of prospective donors and stewarding them to the major giving level ($1,000+). The Major Gifts Officer is also responsible for managing the grant cycle and drafting and submitting proposals to private foundations.
The person in this position must have excellent interpersonal skills, especially with new people. In addition, they must be skilled at grasping complex policy ideas and relating their impacts, without a political or partisan lens, to address a broad array of donor interests, from economics to the environment.
The Major Gifts Officer will also help manage and update the fundraising Customer Relationship Management (CRM), field calls from FAIR members and donors, and work with the Advancement Team on digital and email campaigns as assigned.
Major Responsibilities
- Perform prospect research for new donors who have been identified as having high giving potential using wealth screening software (Donor Search);
- Establish individualized cultivation plans for new major donor prospects to help prospects reach our philanthropic goals and develop a long-term relationship with our organization;
- Communicate effectively with donors to ensure they understand FAIR’s tangible progress;
- Manage annual grant cycles and assist in the drafting and submitting of grant proposals and acknowledgments;
- Keep major and prospective donor profiles up-to-date in fundraising CRM with correspondence records and accurate wealth screening data;
- Work with others in the department to align efforts and set goals; Track and report progress using specific metrics; and
- Learn to make direct, face-to-face solicitations and assist the board of directors and other staff with their solicitations (e.g., provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications).
Other Responsibilities
- Draft correspondence to major donors
- Schedule calls for the President to speak with major donors
- Coordinate periodic virtual major donor briefings via private links
- Coordinate (three times a year) President’s Report mailing to Major Donors
- Send daily thank you notes to donors giving above $100
Qualifications
- Strong support for and alignment with FAIR’s mission
- Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of fundraising experience
- Other relevant experience with public policy, education, grassroots organizing, communications, editing, and development

Digital Media Strategist
FAIR is searching for a savvy Social & Digital Media Strategist to drive FAIR’s mission and maintain high traffic across our social media channels and our website. This position will also be responsible for developing and testing new digital marketing and direct response strategies and assisting with developing high-level digital campaigns.
Major Responsibilities:
- Track, report, and interpret social media, Google analytics, and other site data to provide recommendations for new strategies and tactics to increase effective engagement
- Publish content to FAIR’s social media platforms and our website
- Review website and social accounts for areas that can be improved and optimized
- Produce weekly/monthly reports tracking FAIR’s social media accounts and website with detailed suggestions for improvements to boost engagement
- Identify powerful keywords and trending relevant hashtags to drive traffic
- Develop, plan, and implement effective SEO strategies, develop link-building strategies
- Assist with the management of digital ad campaigns and tracking their success
- Use Google Analytics, Hotjar, and other available tools to identify trends and website traffic behavior; create website metric reports and offer solutions to improve retention
- Oversee social media communities by identifying opportunities to interact with activists and nurture relationships through these platforms by engaging with followers
- Obtain and edit images, tables, charts, and videos for use in website content
- Assist with mass emails and tracking data to improve conversions
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience in social media management and SEO
- Experience running/managing a professional organization’s social media platforms
- Thorough understanding of Google Analytics and traditional digital media KPIs required
- Experience in keyword/keyphrase research, building keyword maps
- Wide-range experience in digital marketing expertise
- Deep understanding of content management systems and experience working with mid to large-size websites (1000+ pages/documents)
- Proven experience in social media strategy and execution, including audience segmentation and content planning
- Solid knowledge of HTML/CSS a bonus
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

IT Associate
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) in Washington, D.C., seeks an IT Associate for Network and Security Administration. The position reports directly to the Director of Information Technology.
Network Administration:
- Installation and configuration of Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2022 in a virtual environment
- Active directory- adding users, unlocking user accounts
- Vpn configuration and remote desktop
- Configuration of Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Provide network/computer assistance to FAIR/IRLI staff
Security Administration:
Along with the responsibilities below, the IT associate will assist in keeping users informed of security awareness.
- Apply Patches — servers, windows desktops, and annual updates of security software
- Security review — security cloud reports, web usage reports, server health analyzer scans, utilize security tools, monitor network
- File system security — run audit reports, manage alerts on file access, utilize security tools to prevent breaches
Experience/Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems & Network Administration, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Information Systems or a similar field within Computer Science
- 3+ years of work experience
- Knowledge of the current windows operating systems (Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019)
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Knowledge of Microsoft office on-premise applications
- Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server – a plus, but not required

Research Intern
The Federation for American Immigration Reform is looking for a Research Intern to assist the Research Department in furthering its mission to educate the public and policymakers through research, original publications, public outreach, media placements, testimony, and assisting other FAIR departments.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated and has a passion for data manipulation and original research. This role will report to FAIR’s Director of Research.
Major Responsibilities
- Monitor for the publication of immigration-related reports and analyses by government and other outside sources, and summarize relevant data.
- Conduct initial analysis of data to determine its appropriateness for use in FAIR publications.
- Update existing publications with new data
- Create and maintain statistical spreadsheets and databases.
- Write occasional blogs for publication on FAIR’s website.
- Assist other departments with basic research requests, as indicated by the Director of Research.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Working towards a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Data Analytics, Government, Economics, or a similar field.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to create and maintain custom spreadsheets in Excel.
