Full-Time Positions
Director of Research
(Hybrid Schedule)
Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), America’s largest immigration reform group, advocates for enforcement and controls serving our nation’s interest. We are looking for an energetic, do-it-all researcher who will be responsible for educating the public and policymakers on immigration-related issues.
Responsibilities:
- Track periodic outside research releases and keep staff posted on new data
- Survey newly released data to determine relevance to FAIR and where data could be used to update existing publications/issue briefs
- Analyze statistics and raw data and perform demographic and other calculations
- Keep issue briefs, state impact statements, and statistical website information up to date
- Manage and maintain the FAIR library and central files
- Provide research support to other staff members as needed
- Respond to member and public requests for information
- Develop new ideas for upcoming research projects
- Conduct student group outreach and speaking engagements
- Work closely with staff to ensure external communications are supported by up-to-date, factually accurate information
- Effectively and efficiently assist in managing consultants and vendors providing research services to FAIR
- Work with the Web department to ensure web-based content delivers high value to members and drives FAIR’s strategic priorities
Qualifications:
- Minimum 4-5 years of professional experience with a history of progressive achievement and advancement in a similar role
- Bachelor’s degree in government/political science or economics required
- An advanced degree and non-profit experience preferred
- Excellent research, writing, editing, proofreading and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail required
- Strong data and analytical skills, including the ability to present complex data in terms non-specialized audiences can understand

Communications Director
(Hybrid Schedule)
Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), America’s largest immigration reform group, advocates for enforcement and controls serving our nation’s interest. We’re looking for an energetic, do-it-all communications professional who can collaboratively develop and implement FAIR’s messaging, media, and communications strategy to educate and influence public opinion to advance true immigration reform.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as a key spokesperson for FAIR; proactively and effectively communicates FAIR’s mission and position on a wide range of immigration-related policies.
- Creates and executes a strategy for expanding FAIR’s media outreach through print, radio, and television; assists with social media outreach.
- Serves as primary contact for all media inquiries. Determines who will respond. In some instances, Communications Director will respond directly as an authorized spokesperson.
- Maintains constant awareness and understanding of local, state, and national immigration issues and internal program activities and priorities.
- Rapidly identifies and acts on opportunities for FAIR to generate news coverage, whether proactively or in reaction to external events.
- Assists with editing, writing, and distributing press releases, opinion pieces, and blogs; writes and edits weekly newsletter sent to targeted media members.
- Ensures that FAIR media is posted correctly on the website and ready for social media distribution by working with the Digital department.
- Tracks media appearances and develops metrics to analyze the effectiveness of outreach strategies and develop opportunities for improvement.
- Develops and maintains trusted relationships with key members of the media.
- Develops and maintains trusted relationships with media colleagues in like-minded organizations and on Capitol Hill.
- Evaluates and maintains department vendor relationships. Serves as primary contact for communications vendors.
- Stays abreast of all trends in the communications field.
- Organizes, reviews, and updates media databases.
- Manages and updates the department’s page in SharePoint.
- With staff assistance, gathers and distributes daily news clips across the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications/Media or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in Communications/Media or a related field; experience in public policy preferred.
- Vision for developing and executing complex, proactive media strategies.
- Ability to develop talent and manage a professional communications department; managerial experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, maturity, and sound judgment.
- Exceptional oral communication skills; ability effectively communicate complex ideas to non-experts.
- Exceptional writing skills; experience composing professional quality op-eds, blogs, and publications.
- Superior aptitude to confidently and effectively appear on television, radio programs, and in print media.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Skill at pitching concepts and stories to media contacts.

Government Relations Manager
Join a team of dedicated professionals at a dynamic time in the immigration reform movement at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the largest immigration reform group that advocates for enforcement and border controls that serve our nation’s interests. FAIR seeks a candidate to serve on its Federal Government Relations Team.
The position is responsible for furthering FAIR’s legislative agenda of enforcing immigration laws, fighting amnesty, and protecting American workers. Responsibilities include drafting and analyzing legislation and amendments; direct lobbying; drafting reports and fact sheets; and assisting the advocacy work.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Members of Congress and their staff, federal agency personnel, and coalition members.
- Draft and analyze legislation and amendments.
- Represent FAIR meetings with congressional staff, agency officials, and coalition members.
- Assist the director in overseeing the placement and dissemination of the department’s work product. Attend meetings and events when needed.
- Complete complex research and writing assignments on immigration-related topics.
- Contribute materials, including legislative summaries, weekly updates, grassroots alerts, and fact sheets for dissemination on FAIR’s website, blog, and FAIR members.
- Be a committed and effective advocate for all FAIR’s programs and objectives.
Qualifications:
- Senior Government Relations Manager: Law degree required. Capitol Hill or other legislative experience is required.
- Government Relations Manager: Capitol Hill or other legislative advocacy experience required.
- Research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Must have a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to set priorities, work independently, and produce materials consistently, efficiently, and timely.
- Political experience, judgment, and discretion, including an understanding of lobbying, congressional committees, federal legislative procedures, and grassroots targeting.
- Superb interpersonal and communication skills, especially the ability to explain complex policy issues.
- Ability to work effectively as part of FAIR’s legislative advocacy team.
- Strong commitment to FAIR’s mission and the ability to understand issues impacting immigration law or policy.

Legislative Manager
(Hybrid Schedule)
This professional position is responsible for representing FAIR’s legislative and administrative interests before state and local governments, executive bodies, members, advocacy groups, and the media by obtaining legislative and political information and generally assisting the advocacy work of FAIR’s State and Local Engagement Department. The legislative manager will be responsible for supervising the work of the legislative advisor.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze state and local legislation, ordinances, and policy changes.
- Draft and adapt model legislation for use at the state and local level.
- Draft legislative summaries and policy briefs for a variety of audiences.
- Work with other departments to identify, inform, and mobilize FAIR’s members and educate the public on key pieces of legislation.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with legislators, legislative staff, advocacy groups and supporters.
- Develop an expertise in immigration law, policy, and politics.
- Represent FAIR in coalitions, public meetings, hearings, press events, conferences, national forums, and in general communications with state and local public officials.
- Assist FAIR’s departments with tasks relating to education, development, publications, and media coverage.
- Be a committed and effective advocate for all of FAIR’s programs and objectives.
Qualifications:
- J.D. required. Must be barred in a State or District of Columbia
- Legislative analyzing and drafting experience
- Political judgment and sensitivity is a must
- Strong writing and communication skills, including attention to detail
- Unwavering commitment to professionalism in all aspects of one’s performance
- Ability to conduct original research, analyze data, and produce work product in a consistent, efficient, and timely manner
- Other relevant experience with public policy, education, grassroots organizing, communications, editing, and/or development
