FAIR Staff

Dan Stein is an attorney who has worked for more than 35 years in the field of immigration law and law reform. He has been in his present position as President since January 2003.

Prior to leading FAIR, Mr. Stein was the Executive Director of the Immigration Reform Law Institute, a public interest litigation group that has represented a variety of organizations in immigration and administrative law matters.

Mr. Stein has also been in private law practice in real estate, federal agency litigation, criminal law and tax-exempt corporate law.

A native of Washington, D.C., Mr. Stein's interest in immigration began as a professional staff member of the U. S. House of Representatives' Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control, where he studied U.S./Mexico border issues and international crop substitution efforts.

Mr. Stein has published hundreds of articles on immigration policy, and through the years has appeared on national television thousands of times on just about every significant news program in America, has spoken to major groups across America, and has been asked to testify before Congress on related issues over 50 times.

Mr. Stein is a graduate of Indiana University and the Catholic University School of Law.

Bob has been with FAIR since 2006 serving as the organization's Press Secretary and Communications Director. His deep belief is that immigration is the most transformational determinant of where we are heading as a nation and that our policies must be reformed in the public interest. Over many years on thousands of radio, TV and print interviews, Bob has made the case that unless immigration is regulated and sensibly reduced, it will be difficult for America to reduce unemployment, increase wages, improve health care and education and heighten national security.

Prior to joining FAIR, Bob spent twenty years in network radio, marketing and communications after an earlier career in policy and budgeting within the Reagan Administration.

Bob has a degree from George Mason University in Public Administration and Management.

Jen joined FAIR in 2011. She has 25 years’ experience in non-profit accounting and several years’ experience in government and private accounting. Jen is responsible for strategic day-to-day financial activities; she serves as the senior financial leader who ensures the smooth and efficient operation of FAIR and Affiliates at the business and administrative level. Major responsibilities include: Financial reporting and control; business administration; accuracy and security of FAIR’s business and administrative records; governmental reporting; development of accounting, administrative, and personnel policies and managing the Information Technology of FAIR and affiliates.

RJ Hauman joined FAIR in 2015, bringing valuable legislative, regulatory, and political experience to the organization at a crucial time.

In his role, he oversees the Government Relations department and leads FAIR’s advocacy efforts before Congress and the administration. He also serves as a FAIR media spokesperson on a variety of immigration issues. His commentary has been quoted by the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, POLITICO, NPR, and numerous other publications. His work has been published in The Hill, Fox News, Daily Caller, Breitbart, and others. 

Prior to joining FAIR, RJ was a member of the policy team at the nationwide organization for state banking, representing bank regulators of the 50 states, as well as 5,0000 state-chartered financial institutions with more than $4.9 trillion in combined assets. Before that, RJ worked on Capitol Hill, gaining immigration policy experience as an aide to former Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-CA), who chaired the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement. 

He is a graduate of Clemson University and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Political Management at The George Washington University.

Preston Huennekens joined FAIR in 2019 as a Government Relations Associate. He supports the Government Relations department's advocacy and research efforts. Before joining FAIR, Preston served as a Research Associate at the Center for Immigration Studies. He has prior experience in immigration policy, congressional campaigns, and grassroots issue advocacy. He holds both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Political Science from Virginia Tech.

Dave rejoined FAIR in 2016 and brings more than thirty years of proactive communications experience working with non-profits, trade associations and the private sector. Dave has written and placed op-eds in more than 100 publications for national and state leaders in fields ranging from immigration to agriculture policy, food and energy. Ray has served as a chief spokesman for several national organizations and has extensive radio and television experience as well.

Ira joined FAIR in 1986 with experience as a journalist, professor of journalism, special assistant to Gov. Richard Lamm (Colorado), and press secretary of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. His columns have appeared in National Review, LA Times, NY Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, and more. He is an experienced TV and radio commentator.

Matthew joined FAIR in 2018 as FAIR’s communications specialist.  Matthew is a primary media contact for the organization, and assists with all of the organization’s communication activities.  He brings previous experience in government research, writing, and communications. Before joining FAIR, Matthew worked in the Wisconsin State Senate as well as a Wisconsin political non-profit. Matthew holds a B.A. in Political Science and International Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Shari Rendall brings to FAIR over 15 years of experience in government relations and grassroots advocacy. In her former position Shari led the legislation department in coordinating lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill and briefing congressional and administration staff on a wide range of issues. She has also been responsible for grassroots communications and helping state associations devise their legislative strategies. She began her time in D.C. working on Capitol Hill in the office of former Sen. Bob Smith (R-New Hampshire) as a Legislative Aide.

Tanner Bonovitch joined FAIR in 2020. In his role, he monitors, analyzes, and summarizes FAIR’s legislative and administrative interests on the state and local levels. Tanner is a Virginia native with experience as an aide to former Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA) and as campaign manager for Del. Scott Wyatt (R-Hanover, VA). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dave joined FAIR in 2017 after more than ten years as an Assistant State Attorney in Broward County, Florida. His prosecutorial experience covered trial litigation at the misdemeanor and felony levels, drug court and mental health court, and two years as an intake attorney in the juvenile division working closely with law enforcement. Before this, he was a legislative analyst/staff attorney with the Judiciary Committee of the Florida House of Representatives, where he assisted state legislators in ensuring the effectiveness and constitutionality of legislation on a wide variety of subject matter. In both capacities, he often dealt with the interaction of state law and immigration. Dave holds BAs in History and International Relations from American University and a JD from Tulane University Law School.

Susan joined the FAIR staff in 2002. She is a former business owner, manager for municipal code enforcement, immigration coordinator for the Coalition of Government Officials (southern California), and president of Citizens Committee for Immigration Policy. Susan manages FAIR's extensive and national Field Program. She develops members and activist support and educates the media and public on immigration issues.

Jonathan joined FAIR in 2016. He brings prior experience from political consulting on local and congressional races, as well as nonprofit issue advocacy and freelance journalism. He develops grassroots activist support and educates the media and the public on immigration issues.

Joyce, who joined FAIR in 2007, develops member and activist support throughout the United States. Joyce uses her knowledge, experience, and passion about the issue to educate the media and public on immigration issues.

Bob joined FAIR in 2016 as the Development Director. He oversees the fundraising and donor relations efforts for FAIR. Bob has over 25 years of experience in the field of development that has included working for national, international and local non-profit organizations. He has worked for private Christian schools, institutions of higher education and national non-profit organizations that support our U.S. military veterans. Bob joined the FAIR staff after starting and running a successful fundraising consulting business. Bob and his family reside in northern Virginia.

Julia Post joined FAIR in June of 2018 after serving for two years as FAIR’s Development and Digital Communications Intern. As Deputy Director of Advancement, Julia is responsible for overseeing all aspects of FAIR's digital communications strategy, including online membership engagement, issue advocacy campaigns and fundraising initiatives. Julia holds a Bachelors in Political Science from American University. 

Billie joined FAIR in 2015. She uses analytics and innovative industry trends to guide decision-making on the best methods to grow and monetize FAIR’s membership base. Billie holds a B.A. in Communications and a M.A. in Publications Design. She brings to FAIR her marketing and communications experience which she obtained from working in higher education.

Caitlin joined FAIR in 2017. She is responsible for driving FAIR’s social media strategy across multiple channels and on the website to meet the organization’s objectives. Caitlin brings her expertise in the field of communications, including her work on Donald Trump’s Presidential campaign in Indiana. Caitlin holds a B.S. degree in Public Relations and Advertising from University of Southern Indiana.

Mary-Beth joined FAIR in October of 2019. As FAIR's Creative Associate she is responsible for the creative development of various print and digital products. Mary-Beth brings a strong passion for design and a positive attitude to the organization. She holds a BFA in graphic design from East Carolina University.

Bridget joined FAIR in 2019. As Advancement Associate, she is responsible for working on foundation grants and working with FAIR’s major donors. She also assists with online fundraising initiatives. Bridget is originally from the Washington, DC area and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Miami University of Ohio.

Luke Hanson joined FAIR in December 2019 and serves as a video content producer. With a background in writing, editing, teaching, and video production, he gives FAIR the in-house ability to edit and develop videos and digital media to clearly convey our message. Luke holds a Bachelors in English and a minor in Film Studies from the University of Virginia.

Jennifer joined FAIR as Web Content Writer in 2017 and brings to the role extensive communications and media background. She began her career as a policy research analyst on multiple national and state political campaigns before entering journalism. In addition to spending over a decade writing for several broadcast and print news outlets, Jennifer directed communications strategy for a member of Congress and a military nonprofit.

Pawel Styrna was born in Poland but has lived in the United States most of his life. He has MAs in history from the University of Illinois at Chicago and in international affairs from the Institute of World Politics in Washington, DC. He is currently a PhD student in Russian and European history at American University in DC. Having gone through the immigration process himself, he believes in common sense immigration policies and the right of sovereign nations to control their borders. He has written several op-eds on immigration issues.  

Willieree Murray joined FAIR in February 2019. As Web Analyst Content Optimizer, Willieree is responsible for management of FAIR’s main website and microsites and search engine optimization strategy. Willieree holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Systems and is a veteran of the United States Army where she served as a Morse Code Radio Operator.

Matthew J. O’Brien joined FAIR in 2016. Matt is responsible for managing FAIR’s research activities. He also writes content for FAIR’s website and publications. Over the past twenty years he has held a wide variety of positions focusing on immigration issues, both in government and in the private sector. Immediately prior to joining FAIR Matt served as the Chief of the National Security Division (NSD) within the Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate (FDNS) at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), where he was responsible for formulating and implementing procedures to protect the legal immigration system from terrorists, foreign intelligence operatives, and other national security threats. He has also held positions as the Chief of the FDNS Policy and Program Development Unit, as the Chief of the FDNS EB-5 Division, as Assistant Chief Counsel with U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement, as a Senior Advisor to the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman, and as a District Adjudications Officer with the legacy Immigration & Naturalization Service. In addition, Matt has extensive experience as a private bar attorney. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in French from the Johns Hopkins University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maine School of Law.

Spencer joined FAIR in 2015. He conducts research, and writes content for FAIR’s publications and website. He brings previous experience in state politics, gubernatorial and district campaigns, and D.C. political non-profits. Spencer holds a B.A. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin.

Casey joined FAIR in 2018. He assists the research team with projects and writes for FAIR’S website. He previously spent a year working in journalism in Washington, D.C. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a B.A. in Journalism in 2017.

Ryan joined FAIR in January 2020. As a Junior Researcher, he is responsible for writing blogs for the FAIR website and assisting the Research Department with projects. Before joining FAIR, Ryan spent three years working for D.C. media organizations, where he picked up considerable political journalism experience. He holds a BA in political science from Rhode Island College.

Raj joined FAIR in 2012. He has 18 years of accounting experience. Raj is responsible for processing accounts payable, posting revenue, reconciling general ledger accounts and various other accounting duties. Raj also prepares state registrations on an annual basis and assists the Director of Finance and Administration with budget preparation and FAIR's annual audit.

Hemant joined FAIR in 2016. He is responsible for assisting the Chief Financial Officer, handling human resource matters, general office administration, accounts payable processing and general ledger reconciliation. Hemant holds a BS in Finance from University of Maryland University College. He brings to FAIR four years of accounting experience.

Brenda joined FAIR in 2018 as the Receptionist/Office Administrator. Brenda greets visitors, processes outgoing mail, answers incoming calls, assists Human Resources with leave tracking and monitors building security. She also supports the Finance and Administration Department by updating shared files and FAIR's policy and procedures manuals. Brenda brings over 20 years' experience supporting executive staff in the areas of medical billing, collections, accounting and office management.

Brenda belongs to the Piscataway-Conoy Tribe, one of two only state-recognized Native American Tribe in the State of Maryland.

Katy joined FAIR in 2018. She is responsible for all human resource matters, payroll, general journal entries, and general office administration. Katy holds a BS in Accounting & Business Administration from University of Maryland University College. Katy also has the Fundamental Payroll Certificate and Certified Administrative Professional. She brings to FAIR more than 10 years of financial experience.

Gwen joined FAIR in 1992. She serves as primary administrator of the technical network. As technology changes and grows, Gwen maintains all data and voice networks while updating applications and hardware when necessary. Gwen's knowledge allows FAIR employees to have access to the tools needed in today's computer age.
