Voter Fraud Erodes Election Integrity
Throughout the 2020 election cycle, the integrity of ourelection system was openly questioned by people across the political spectrum.Among the reasons for this skepticism is evidence that significant numbers ofnoncitizens and illegal aliens are on our voter rolls across the country.
Voting by noncitizens is expressly prohibited by law yet there is significant evidence that illegal aliens and noncitizens have voted in recent elections. To make matters worse, several jurisdictions allow noncitizens and illegal aliens to vote in local elections. Not only that, but it has been made extremely easy for them to vote due to a lack of documentation which confirms both identity and citizenship. A 2020 FAIR study estimates that approximately 1.75 million noncitizens vote every year, but that number could be as high as 3.1 million.
In the wake of the recent election, projected results are being disputed over suspected massive voter fraud. The Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), partnering with the Voter Integrity Project, said it uncovered examples of noncitizens in jury pools in Charlotte, North Carolina dating all the way back to 2012. With a population of about 10.5 million people, North Carolina is becoming a key battleground state for presidential and congressional elections. Jury pools are created using Department of Motor Vehicles and voter registration data, therefore the presence of noncitizens and illegal aliens on jury pools suggests that the same would be true for the county’s voter rolls. In a three year period, 6,000 prospective jurors in one county notified the court that they were not U.S. citizens. How many more slip through the cracks or never identify themselves to the court?
Dale L. Wilcox, executive director and general counsel of IRLI said that this is “evidence of the larger crisis of non-citizen voting on the national level. Every vote by a legal or illegal alien cancels out the vote of an American citizen. It is a violation of the core principles of our constitutional republic. If we, as a nation, cannot remedy the problem of election fraud, then we have surrendered the right to choose our representatives and will instead live under the permanent rule of unaccountable political elites.”
The integrity of our electoral process, and the public’s confidence that the outcomes are fairly decided, depends on our ability to ensure that only those who are legally eligible to vote cast a ballot. Knowingly registering or casting votes as a noncitizen is a federal crime, and those who do so could be subject to penalties, including deportation. There are plenty of mechanisms that could be deployed to remove illegal, deceased, or otherwise ineligible voters from the rolls. Unfortunately, far too many local, state and federal government officials lack the political will to do so.
