Does Obama Want An Amnesty Bill to Fail?
TPS Deadline Extended For Haitians Due to Sandy“Temporary protected status for Haitians displaced by the 2010 earthquake in their Caribbean homeland was extended through July 2014. Haitians previously approved to temporarily live and work here originally had until Nov. 30 to register for the 18-month extension. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services this week pushed back the registration deadline until Jan. 29,” the AP reports.
Does Obama Want An Amnesty Bill to Fail?“President Barack Obama promised Dec. 30 to introduce an immigration bill during 2013, but activists on all sides of the debate are trying to understand his strategy. He may be gunning for a victory in the mid-term elections by introducing a bill so radical that it will spark an emotional controversy from whites, which would then spur many angry Latinos to vote Democratic in the 2014 midterm elections, said Robert de Posada, former head of a GOP-affiliated group, The Latino Coalition,” the Daily Caller writes.”When the bill fails, ‘they can announce once again that they tried [and that Latinos] need to rally in the next election,’ said Posada, who helped President George W. Bush win 40 percent of the Latino vote in 2004, during the housing boom.”
Iowa Latest State to Deny Licenses to DACA (DREAM Act) Recipients“In a sign of growing opposition to President Obama’s immigration policy, Iowa has become the latest state to deny driver’s licenses to young illegal immigrants who receive deferments from deportation. Iowa joins Michigan, Nebraska and Arizona in denying licenses or non-operator identification cards because, officials say, Obama’s deferred action program doesn’t grant legal status in the United States. Officials in each state cite laws restricting the licenses to foreigners who reside here legally,” NPR reports.
