Illegal Immigration Isn’t Funny. Neither is MSNBC.
“Hilarity” ensued during MSNBC’s recent election primary coverage.
Co-Host, Jen Psaki: “And if you look at some of these exit polls, I mean I live in Virginia, immigration was the number one issue.” (Followed by hearty laughter from Co-Host, Joy Reid.)
Anchor, Rachel Maddow: “Well, Virginia does have a border with West Virginia.” (Full panel laughs)
…Hilarity of course only for the haughty network anchors. Viewers were not amused, particularly Virginians who don’t like seeing their problems diminished to ridiculing jokes.
Despite the sarcastic suggestion that voters in Virginia are simply imagining an immigration problem that doesn’t exist, facts suggest otherwise.
The Old Dominion has 419,000 illegal aliens — 563,000 when their U.S.-born children are included — costing taxpayer $2.84 billion each year in educational, healthcare, criminal justice and other public assistance and general governmental services. This amounts to a burden of $873 per Virginia household annually…additional costs that taxpayers can do without given rising inflation.
Here’s some more “funny” facts for Maddow to mock:
- A Venezuelan migrant was recently charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Campbell County, Virginia after crossing the United States-Mexico border illegally at El Paso, Texas. Renzo Mendoza Montes, 32, is currently being held in Campbell County on felony charges of ‘carnal knowledge of a child without force’ and ‘taking indecent liberties with a child’. (He’d been previously arrested and released by U.S. Customs and Border protection.)
- In October 2023, an unnamed Honduran criminal alien was arrested by ICE in Herndon, Virginia, on charges of felony rape by force, threat, or intimidation; abduction by force; and assault on a family member. The individual was originally arrested by the Border Patrol on the U.S.-Mexico border in June 2021, handed a Notice to Appear, and then released.
- In August of 2023, police in Loudoun County, Virginia, arrested Brandon Estrada de Leon for allegedly harboring and abducting a teenager he had raped repeatedly during the course of the year.
And so many more, too numerous for listing here. Not that doing so would slow MSNBC’s denials of reality and stop the snarky distain for tragic consequences.
As regards to MSNBC’s snide suggestion that Virginians’ concerns about illegal immigration are farcical because it “shares a border with West Virginia,” the network should know that that state has its own problems. 6,000 illegal aliens reside there – 9,000 if their U.S.-born children are included, costing taxpayers in the low-income state, a burdensome $39.9 million annually.
Finally, we offer a remedial geography lesson for the MSNBC self-amused snobs who evidently live in isolated bubbles. In addition to sharing a border with West Virginia, Virginia also shares a border with several other states including Tennessee, Kentucky, and North Carolina, the latter having the eighth largest illegal alien population in America. Then, and most notably, the majority of Virginia residents live in the northern part of the state which is adjacent to both Maryland with its 350,000 illegal aliens, and Washington, D.C., with its 38,000 illegal aliens, all lured by expansive sanctuary policies. By virtue of proximity and commuting patterns, the boundaries are more or less invisible, thus the impact of rampant illegal immigration is felt region-wide.
Virginia may not be situated on the U.S.-Mexico border, but in practical effect it is a border state, like so many others. Immigration is the top issue for voters for good reason.
Laughter is usually a genuine response to something funny; voter concerns about illegal immigration isn’t. For MSNBC though, laughter is revealed as an elitist expression of their nightly derision, sanctimony, and condescension for everyday Americans adversely impacted by Biden’s Border Crisis.
Then too, maybe the MSNBC panel laughed because – deep down – they’re nervous; people do that, especially when they’re nervous AND guilty. After all, with rising public opposition to illegal immigration, escalating distrust of leftist media, along with crystal-clear, factual evidence that the migrant crisis is bleeding cities dry, wouldn’t you also be a tad nervous being a contemptuous MSNBC anchor, earning your living by lying to the public all day?
