FAIR Notes the Passing of Advisory Board Member and Longtime Friend Georgie Anne Geyer

(May 20, 2019, Washington, D.C.) — The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) today noted with sadness the passing of long-time friend and associate, nationally syndicated columnist Georgie Anne Geyer. Geyer served as a member of FAIR’s National Board of Advisors for decades. She was the author of an important book on citizenship and assimilation, Americans No More: The Death of Citizenship (1996).

Having traveled the world in her storied career as a pioneering journalist, Georgie Anne Geyer knew and understood how nations rise and fall. She interviewed some of the world’s most notorious dictators, and observed first-hand the importance of a robust sense of national unity born of a coherent sense of civic responsibility. 

“Gee Gee’s career included a long stint as a regular on the PBS Program, Washington Week in Review, where she often reported on foreign policy and international affairs.  But she never neglected to write about the nation’s immigration policy and assimilation issues – they were regular features of her columns from the first to the last,” said Dan Stein, President of FAIR.

“Probably no columnist in America wrote more about the challenges mass immigration presented for our nation than Georgie Anne Geyer. She was ahead of her time, always blazing the untrodden paths, the new ideas and the interesting, courageous perspectives,” Stein said. 

“She would often host salons in her home where stimulating discussions would take place over the major issues of the time – and especially over the immigration and assimilation conflicts that were emerging in the early 1990s. She will be sorely missed as someone that represented a more traditional, responsible school of journalism that seems to be fading away in America,” he concluded.
