FAIR Statement on the Passing of Russell Pearce, Former Arizona State Senate President and Author of SB 1070 and Mandatory E-Verify
(January 6, 2023, Washington, D.C.) — The following statement regarding the passing of former Arizona State Senate President Russell Pearce, a patriot and architect of some of the most significant state immigration reform proposals, was issued by Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR):
“Russell Pearce was an American hero who did everything in his power to prevent exactly what we see happening along our southern border today. From an influential vantage point in the Arizona State Senate, he fought tirelessly to enhance public safety and assist in the control of our nation’s borders. In the end, he lost his seat at the hands of various interests who even today seek to sideline patriotic voices of reason, a key part of their ongoing assault on our national sovereignty. Russell was a strong leader and great friend of America’s true immigration reformers – someone lawmakers across the country should seek to emulate. He will be missed greatly.”
