FAIR Praises President Trump’s Comments on Stopping Caravan, Ending Asylum Abuse

(November 1, 2018, Washington, D.C.) — The following statement was issued by Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR):

“President Trump accurately described the crisis at the border and its impact on the American people and the security of the nation. He laid out a broad outline of a plan that prevents people from abusing our humanitarian policies, while protecting the asylum process of those legitimately fleeing political persecution.

“The president made clear that the United States will honor international law when it comes to asylum seekers, but indicated that we will no longer release people into the United States until a determination can be made about whether the claims have merit.

“The president called for bipartisan support for an effort that allows us to continue to protect legitimate asylum seekers, while discouraging people who are intent on abusing our policies to gain entry to our country. We look forward to seeing the president’s plans to honor our humanitarian commitments and protect the interests and security of the American people.”
