With Lawmakers Poised to Act on Immigration, FAIR Releases its Legislative Roadmap for the 119th Congress

FAIR Take | December 2024
As lawmakers in Washington, D.C. prepare to debate immigration in January, today FAIR is releasing its Legislative Agenda for the incoming Congress. The agenda focuses on critical steps that Congress can take to reform our immigration system and ensure that subsequent presidential administrations cannot again abuse our immigration laws as the Biden-Harris administration has done. Perhaps most importantly, the agenda outlines key reforms to stop asylum fraud, parole abuse, and mass catch-and-release policies that have allowed millions of illegal aliens into the country under the current administration.
Within FAIR’s Legislative Agenda, there are four major areas of true immigration reform: (1) national security and border control; (2) immigration enforcement; (3) reforming legal immigration and protecting the American worker; and (4) defending voting integrity. While the border crisis has consumed most of the attention in the media, lawmakers cannot lose sight of the bigger picture. Truly reforming our immigration system requires a holistic approach. In addition to securing the border and enforcing our immigration laws, we must also scale back our guest worker programs to protect American workers, reform our legal immigration system by ending chain migration, transform our system to one that prioritizes merit, and safeguard Americans’ voting rights. While the recommendations included in the agenda are by no means exhaustive, they do represent major reforms that FAIR considers to be top priorities and the most effective solutions for addressing the immigration crisis in the United States.
In November, Americans across the country gave Congress, and the incoming Trump administration, a clear mandate to secure our borders and roll back the failed policies of the last four years. Today’s Legislative Agenda provides a blueprint to do exactly that.
