Texas County Commissioners Approve Sheriff’s Plan to Deputize Locals and Combat the Biden Border Crisis

Thousands of illegal aliens are pouring across our borders, the highest numbers ever recorded, due to the Biden administration’s failure to enforce our immigration laws.  As a result of this administration’s dereliction, the sheriff and commissioners of one Texas border county have taken matters into their own hands.  They are deputizing local citizens to address this crisis in their community.

Sheriff Brad Coe’s county borders Val Verde County, with its county seat at Del Rio (the epicenter for the Haitian caravan in September.)  According to Sheriff Coe the majority of U.S. Border Patrol personnel are in the neighboring county (the Del Rio Sector) processing asylum claimants while his county is being inundated by dangerous illegal border crossers.  With only six full-time deputies, he doesn’t have enough resources to address the public safety concerns that now plague his community.  

While Governor Greg Abbott (R) has sent the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to the border to back up local law enforcement, Sheriff Coe wants the governor to activate and deploy “the National Guard to prevent an invasion. “ 

In the meantime, Sheriff Coe is working with his county commissioners to resolve the public safety concerns caused by the Biden border crisis.   The sheriff proposed deputizing local citizens as “reserve officers.”  On October 18, the Commissioners’ Court approved this proposal. 

The proposal calls for:

  • A maximum of ten reservists;

     
  • Only qualified individuals like former military and/or law enforcement will be deputized;

     
  • Individuals must be fully vetted and pass an extensive background check;

     
  • Full-time deputies will train the reservists;

     
  • Reservists will only be deputized once the Sheriff determines they are fully qualified.

While the new reservists will help address the County’s dire circumstances, the problems will remain unless the Biden administration reverses its lawless policies.  Sheriff Coe extended an invitation to President Biden and Vice President Harris to visit Kinney County to see firsthand the effects of their border policies.
