Tell Gov Holcomb that DACA recipients in Indiana shouldn’t be rewarded for violating our immigration laws!
The Indiana legislature passed a professional licensing bill, SB 419 on the last day of its legislative session, which included an amendment that allows Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients to obtain professional licenses. The amendment was jammed onto the bill without time for hearings or thorough consideration. This ill-conceived amendment completely disregards the fact that DACA recipients are illegal aliens and could soon be subject to deportation. The bill now heads to Governor Holcomb, who has seven days from its sending, to sign or veto it.
Federal law is plainly designed to preclude illegal aliens from receiving commercial and professional licenses under 8 U.S.C. § 1621. If Indiana allows DACA recipients to obtain professional licenses, they will be incentivizing illegal immigration and taking jobs from American citizens and legal immigrants. Passing SB 419 will obliterate any distinction between those legally present and those who are in violation of federal law.
