Indiana House of Representatives Professional Licensing Bill Rewards DACA Recipients
On March 5, the Indiana House of Representatives passed a professional licensing bill, SB 419, which included an amendment that allows Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients to obtain professional licenses even though they are illegal aliens and could soon be subject to deportation. The bill now heads back to the Senate for a vote, which must happen before the session ends next Wednesday, March 14.
Federal law is plainly designed to preclude illegal aliens from receiving commercial and professional licenses under 8 U.S.C. § 1621. If Indiana allows DACA recipients to obtain professional licenses they will be incentivizing illegal immigration and taking jobs from American citizens and legal immigrants. Passing SB 419 will obliterate any distinction between those legally present and those who are in violation of federal law.
Tell your Senators that DACA recipients shouldn’t be allowed to be rewarded for violating our immigration laws!
