FAIR Letter to N.C. State Board of Elections
Gary O. Bartlett
Executive Director
North Carolina State Board of Elections
506 North Harrington St.
Raleigh, NC 27603
Dear Director Bartlett:
The North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) began earlier this year to prospectively verify the Social Security numbers (SSNs) used by applicants for driver’s licenses with the records of the Social Security Administration (SSA).However, the need to retrospectively verify the SSNs used by applicants already awarded driver’s licenses was ignored. Until now, driver’s licenses were issued to individuals without SSNs by simply entering “999-99-9999” on the application. These individuals, variously estimated to number between 338,000 and 400,000, must be assumed to be illegal immigrants.
Many of these applicants may have registered to vote at the same time. After all, the DMV clerk only verbally asks if the individual is registered to vote and, if not, if they are eligible to vote.Once the applicant states they are eligible, he/she becomes a registered voter.
This evidence of widespread illegal driver’s license applications strongly suggests that significant numbers of individuals have been unlawfully registered to vote. The integrity of elections conducted in North Carolina will remain at risk as long as there is the suspicion that illegal aliens constitute up to 400,000 registered voters in the state of North Carolina.
We ask that you act immediately to comb from your voter rolls individuals who may be improperly registered to vote.We and our North Carolina members will be keenly interested in your progress and intend to keep both the national and North Carolina media apprised of developments.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Dan Stein
Executive Director
