FAIR’s Trip to the Southern Border
Biden’s 100th Day in Office April 30th, 2021
On March 28, 2021, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), along with the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), traveled to the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas to examine the Biden Border Crisis and to participate in a Congressional delegation press conference.
FAIR’s senior fellow Mark Morgan, FAIR’s press secretary Matthew Tragesser, FAIR’s video content producer Luke Hanson, IRLI’s senior fellow Tom Homan, and IRLI’s director of communications Brian Lonergan spent a week in the region and collected insights from Border Patrol Agents, members of the national media, Congressmen, and local residents.
During the week, FAIR helped organize a press conference near Mission, Texas that featured FAIR’s Mark Morgan and IRLI’s Tom Homan along with local law enforcement, sheriffs, and the following members of Congress:
- Rep. Brian Babin (TX-36)
- Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19)
- Rep. Michael Burgess (TX-26)
- Rep. Louis Gohmert (TX-01)
- Rep. Ronny Jackson (TX-13)
- Rep. Pete Sessions (TX-17)
- Rep. Beth Van Duyne (TX-24)
- Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14)
The press conference was covered by a number of prominent media outlets including the Washington Examiner, Fox News, One America News, Breitbart, Newsmax, Daily Caller, Townhall, and many more.
FAIR and RLI also conducted more than 45 interviews with radio stations across the country to highlight the severity of the Biden Border Crisis.
A short documentary featuring FAIR’s observations from the trip was also created.
After spending just one week in the region, it became clear that a crisis was occurring at our southern border. Migrants—especially family units and unaccompanied minors—were crossing the Rio Grande River at record rates even at hours past midnight. Border Patrol Agents appeared to be extremely strained and had limited resources. Detention facilities—especially the Donna Facility—were continuously said to be overcrowded and unsanitary. President Trump’s border wall had also been abruptly halted at the border, despite having materials and funding already present.
