House and Senate to Conduct Key Immigration Hearings This Week

Today: At 10:00 am, the Senate Judiciary Committee will be holding a hearing on “Oversight of the Administration’s Decision to End Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).” Appearing before the committee will be Chad Readler, Acting Assistant Attorney General at the Department of Justice (DOJ), Michael Dougherty, Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and James McCament, Acting Director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). It is expected that pro-amnesty members of the committee from both parties will use the hearing to promote the DREAM Act, a broad amnesty bill that would legalize millions more illegal aliens than just the 690,000 DACA recipients.

Wednesday: Both of the House committees with jurisdiction over immigration—Judiciary and Homeland Security—will separately hold markups at 10 a.m. Eastern on key immigration bills. The House Homeland Security Committee will markup Chairman Michael McCaul’s (R-TX) H.R. 3548, the Border Security for America Act. The hearing can be viewed here. The House Judiciary Committee will also markup FAIR-supported H.R. 3711, the Legal Workforce Act by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX). The committee will also markup Chairman Bob Goodlatte’s (R-VA) Agriculture Guestworker Act – the latest iteration of a bill FAIR has criticized in the past.
