GOP Lawmakers Unveil Massive Amnesty Bill as DACA ‘Solution’
Legislative Update By: RJ Hauman
In a press conference yesterday, Sens. Thom Tillis (R-NC), James Lankford (R-OK), and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) introduced the SUCCEED Act, which would grant amnesty to several million illegal aliens. (Breitbart, Sept. 24, 2017) While text of the bill is not yet available, talking points provided by the pro-amnesty lawmakers reveal that the bill will offer a path to citizenship to more than 2.5 million illegal aliens who gain jobs, university spaces, and military slots sought by American citizens and legal immigrants. (SUCCEED Act Two-Pager) The Senators claim that the bill is a “conservative alternative” to the more expansive, serially rejected DREAM Act, which would give amnesty to some 3.3 million illegal aliens. (Id.) However, like the DREAM Act, the bill still gives amnesty to millions more illegal aliens than ever received Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status and contains no enforcement measures to prevent future amnesties.
FAIR continues to urge Republicans and Democrats who want to find a legislative solution for the DACA population to come to the negotiating table in good faith. First, they need to reject their greedy tendency to overreach and limit any legalization to DACA recipients who meet revised vetting standards, not the DREAM Act or SUCCEED Act – which are overly broad. They must also support the RAISE Act, which ends chain migration, cuts the future flow of legal migration in half to approximately 550,000 per year, and prevents the amnestied DACA recipients from ever sponsoring their lawbreaking parents. The deal must also include mandatory nationwide E-Verify to prevent illegal aliens from taking American jobs, enhanced interior enforcement from the Davis-Oliver Act, and complete construction of the border wall (where appropriate). (See The Hill, Sept. 14, 2017)
A thorough analysis of the SUCCEED Act will be available in the coming days.
