Three Migrants in Two Weeks Arrested for Sex Crimes in New York City
Illegal aliens continue to commit crimes at an alarming rate in New York City. Just in the last two weeks, three illegal aliens have been charged with sex crimes in the city.
One illegal alien from Senegal crossed the border last year and is charged with raping a 36-year-old woman in the Bronx. Immigration officials say the suspect, Papa Diop, was released due to a detention bed shortage. However, detention bed availability fluctuated between 3,000 and 7,000 in May 2023, making this a completely preventable crime. The Biden-Harris administration would simply rather release an illegal alien than detain them.
If that wasn’t infuriating enough, the illegal alien submitted an asylum application in January and was granted a work permit until 2029!
Just one day after Diop’s arrest, two illegal aliens were arrested in the brutal rape of a homeless woman at knifepoint underneath the popular Coney Island boardwalk.
Authorities say Nicaraguan illegal alien, Daniel Davon-Bonilla, threw a woman to the ground and then raped her as he held a knife to her throat. His alleged accomplice, Leovando Moreno, an illegal alien from Mexico, is accused of using a pipe to hit the woman’s boyfriend when he tried to intervene.
Davon-Bonilla crossed the border illegally in December 2022, and it’s unclear when Moreno entered the country.
To make matters worse, this was not Davon-Bonilla’s first run-in with the law since illegally entering the U.S. Four months after crossing the border, he was arrested for allegedly raping a woman at a hotel turned migrant shelter.
He took a plea deal that saw him released in June 2024 after spending nearly a year behind bars. It’s not clear from the reporting why ICE did not detain Davon-Bonilla after his release, but chances are ICE was not made aware of his immigration status or release, considering New York City is a sanctuary jurisdiction.
In the third sex crime case, an illegal alien from Guinea named Ousmane Balde is accused of grabbing a woman’s crotch in Central Park. He is a recent arrival to New York City.
The three cases are incredibly disturbing and are hardly the only illegal alien crime stories FAIR has written about since the start of the Biden-Harris administration. The administration dismantled border security and has willfully violated immigration laws while instituting open-borders policies that attract dangerous individuals to American borders, where most are caught and promptly released into the interior of the country or escape capture entirely.
Those dangerous illegal aliens wind up in places like New York City, often in a migrant shelter and then end up committing crimes. Then, New Yorkers have to worry if they will become the next victim of a preventable crime.
Despite what the Biden-Harris administration claims about a slowdown in border crossings, encounters remain historically high at 205,019 at our borders in June of FY 2024. As FAIR recently documented, the Roosevelt Hotel migrant shelter in New York City appears as busy as ever.
So, whatever open-borders advocates claim about illegal aliens committing crimes at a lower rate than American citizens, stories like this serve as an indictment of those claims. And they can never escape the fact that these crimes would not have happened if these illegal aliens simply were prevented from entering the United States.
