Open Borders Lobby Group Blames Border Disaster on Fox News, Newsmax and Social Media

If you’ve been wondering who is responsible for the raging disaster that is our southern border, America’s Voice, a Soros-backed open borders advocacy group, has the answer for you. The Biden administration? Nope. The criminal cartels that are making billions smuggling migrants and narcotics into our country? Wrong again. Virtue-signaling sanctuary jurisdictions that promise illegal aliens all manner of benefits and services (and then complain about the costs)? Strike three.
No, it’s “that pervasive disinformation about ‘open borders’ — including from U.S. right-wing politicians and media – [that] contributes to Central American migration to the U.S.,” America’s Voice concludes, based on polling conducted in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. As an example, America’s Voice reports that “Fox News mentioned ‘open borders’ 3,842 times from Nov. 1, 2020, through Aug. 22, 2023. Newsmax mentioned ‘open borders’ 3,257 times during the same period.”
Also to blame is “U.S. politicians’ rhetoric about ‘open borders’ [which] is encouraging some Central Americans to make the journey to the U.S.-Mexico border.” All of this, in the words of America’s Voice’s executive director, Vanessa Cárdenas is “relentless political disinformation about the state of the U.S. border [that] filters into Central America, falls on the ears of desperate people looking for a way out and empowers smugglers and other bad actors.”
And then there’s social media, through which millions of people who have successfully entered the United States, often making bogus asylum claims, report directly to friends and relatives back home that our borders are wide open. According to the poll, “51% believe what they see on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and other social media sources as trusted sources of information.”
The conclusion of America’s Voice seems to be that the problem isn’t the reality that, under the Biden administration, our borders are open. Rather, it is people – media outlets, politicians, and other recent migrants who have successfully entered the United States – truthfully reporting that our borders are wide open.
America’s Voice’s poll, and their implicit assertion that we all need to stop speaking the truth, smacks of desperation. As whatever marginal public support there might have been for open borders, in theory, erodes under the reality of open borders, advocacy groups like America’s Voice must resort to labeling objective reality as disinformation.
As George Orwell said, “In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” Thus, America’s Voice would like everyone to stop telling the truth about our open borders.
