Former New York Governor Warns of Coming “Revolt” Over Biden Migration Crisis

How bad has the Biden illegal immigration crisis gotten? According to one prominent political figure, the burdens the White House imposes on state and local governments are worthy of a resistance movement. “There might be a kind of city-vs.-country revolt — which we probably need at this point,” this official said. This was not Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) talking about a “national divorce.” Rather, it was former Democratic New York Governor David Paterson encouraging states and cities to push back against an illegal immigration crisis for which he directly blames President Biden.
Paterson made these remarks on WABC radio, addressing New York City’s ever-worsening crisis resulting from an influx of about 10,000 new illegal aliens a month who are showing up in the five boroughs. “The federal government just decided they are sending the people in, and we should just be happy. I don’t know what it is that they expect. They sent really no money,” said Paterson.
Paterson noted that in New York City alone, the cost of housing and providing for the basic needs of the migrants now runs $9.8 million a day, or $3.6 billion a year. Put in perspective, the current annual cost of caring for the migrants who have turned up in the Big Apple is 64 percent greater than the amount the city currently spends on its fire department. And, as astounding as these costs are, “This is a floor, not a ceiling,” Paterson warned.
So far, so good, for a politician from a deep blue state. But like many state and local Democrats who have been complaining about the impact of unchecked migration, Paterson’s biggest gripe is that the federal government isn’t sending enough money. “This is the kind of plan that should never have been enacted within a year. [The Biden administration] should have taken a year to try to adjust the facilities and the capacity of a city or a town or wherever you’re sending migrants,” Paterson said.
Or, maybe the plan shouldn’t have been enacted at all?
Regardless of which government entity is footing the bill, $3.6 billion a year (in New York City alone) to provide shelter, food, education, health care, and other services to an endless stream of people who are abusing our asylum system seems like a bad idea. Perhaps the message of the “revolt” Paterson thinks we “probably need,” should be for the Biden administration to stop the flood of migrants, not send more cash.
