Hey DNC, Want To Address The Issues Facing Border Residents? Start At The Source Of The Problem
When it comes to the crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is good at issuing press releases.Fixing problems…? Not so much.
In honor of Vice President Mike Pence’s visit to the border town of Nogales, Arizona, the folks at the DNC rolled up their sleeves and got to work on…a press release!
“Vice President Pence’s visit to Arizona is a great opportunity for him to address the issues that Nogales residents have been facing, like the increasing wait times at ports of entry that severely affect cross-border trade and strain the lives of American citizens,” states the release.
No doubt, the current border crisis, which saw 103,492 people apprehended last month while crossing illegally from Mexico (many of whom are making bogus claims for political asylum), is resulting in long delays for legitimate travelers at ports entry, impeding commerce, and straining the lives of American citizens.
While we haven’t done any polling, it is a pretty safe bet that the percentage of Americans who want long lines, interrupted commerce, and strain on the lives of border residents is zero (with a margin of error of +/- 0%).
If the DNC is interested in addressing these problems, otherthan for the purpose of putting out press releases criticizing the vicepresident, perhaps the Democratic leadership in Congress can roll up theirsleeves and work on…actual solutions. You know, things like preventing peoplefrom abusing our asylum laws, adding more detention space, increasing thenumber of asylum adjudicators, legislatively overriding the ruling of a singlefederal judge who declared children “get out of jail free cards” for illegalborder-crossers, or treating unaccompanied minors as trafficking victims evenwhen they clearly are not.
Chaos creates hardship and inconvenience for everyone. Ifthe DNC really wants to end hardship and inconvenience, it needs to break thelogjam in Congress and pass legislation that will end the chaos.
