Americans speak up on LEGAL IMMIGRATION AND ASSIMILATION.
- “I have friends who want to be in this country legally. They would have to go back to their country for SEVEN years before they would have a chance to do that. I want a system implemented that would give them a legal course to follow that would allow them to stay here and become legal residents.” – American affected by immigration from Texas.
- “Illegal aliens are in America illegally. They should be deported, we can not afford them being here.” – American affected by immigration from Texas.
- “I am a legal immigrant who went through the hoops. It would be very unfair to me if the government would legalize illegals.” – American affected by immigration.
- “My family had to stop at Elis island to be vetted and checked for medical problems before being allowed to put one foot on American soil they were hard working, talented people who had a great deal to offer without looking or ever accepting a handout; they were willing to adapt to the culture and beliefs of America and also volunteered to fight for their new country against the one they came from in WW2 without reservation or hesitation. Maybe that’s the difference, we had something to offer not like today people come with their hands out looking to reap the benefits of me and my ancestors.” – American affected by immigration from Florida.
- “I don’t mind foreigners I just want them legal — my family has been here since 1961 and has been legal from the day they drove over Ambassador Bridge into the US — if my mom and dad can do with 3 kids then anyone can — STOP ILLEGALS.” – American affected by immigration from Indiana.
- “I’m an immigrant legal. I learned the language, I learned about the American way of life, I pay my taxes, I want my benefits to go to legal immigrants who assimilate in our American culture.” – American affected by immigration from Florida.
- “I came here as a legal immigrant from the UK in 1980… I always tell people, British by birth, American by the grace of God. Illegal immigration destroys the integrity of our nation. We are a nation founded on Judaeo/Christian principles and we speak English. If you can’t handle that, don’t want to adapt to our culture, or practice a religion that infringes on basic human rights, you probably would be happier somewhere else. If you are illegal, you have nothing to contribute and you are a drain on resources that ordinary hard working Americans have to pay for. Resources that they cannot access due to illegals. Head Start programs for children as one example!” – American affected by immigration from Texas.
- “There is a way to come to the USA legally and work legally. I am an example of that. I came legally from South America, thank God, I was able to follow all the immigration laws and learned how to speak English. If I can do it, everybody can do it.” – American affected by immigration from Florida.
- “It is time to stop illegal immigration to this country. If they want to come here there should be a vetting process, not a President ignoring laws and giving them free rein. We have plenty of Americans out of work who need jobs. Homeless vets who are on the streets. The money our President is spending on these refugees could take care of our own. We also need to make sure when they come here they follow our laws. We can not reward these illegals with better benefits than our own citizens get. Money is taken from our military who defend this country and given to these illegals. What a shame. We need to stop our President from brining any more into this country without vetting. Time to do something.” – American affected by immigration from South Carolina.
- “My family came from Germany and Ireland to pursue the American Dream and we accomplished it. Immigrants aren’t just from Mexico but all over such as Africa, Europe, South America, and Asia to live the American Dream. Everyone deserves to live the way they want to live as long as they don’t cheat their way to get into America.” – American affected by immigration from Illinois.
- “I’m not opposed to LEGAL immigration but the federal government’s policy of allowing all illegal aliens into our Republic will destroy us. Illegals that expect total support and have no intention of assimilating are not an asset!” – American affected by immigration from California.
- “I am an immigrant. I came through all the legal venues available to me. I petitioned and got approved to bring my son in 2011. And it is 2016 and we are still years away from that dream. Meanwhile the daughter of my friend, who is a dreamer, just got a full ride to an Ivy League. How can this be?” – American affected by immigration from New York.
- “Illegal immigrates should not be allowed to stay until they go through the correct channels to become legal immigrants. If they do not do this than they should be made to leave our country.” – American affected by immigration from Missouri.
- “I’m tired of watching foreigners waving their countries flag in protest in my country. I’m tired of all the crimes being commited by illegals and they get away with it because they go back across the border only to return as someone else. I don’t want you in my country if you can’t obey the laws . If illegals have jobs don’t break the laws pay taxes. I’m all for them staying in the USA if they register with our government.” – American affected by immigration from Nevada.
- “Look I know we are all immigrants. That being said there is due process that thousands of these people haven’t applied for . They just snuck in like criminals , then we have too many . We don’t even know where or who these people are. Are they safe for us as Americans ? Probably not. Vaccinations up to date? Doubt it! I have no sympathy for countries that can’t deal with their own mess an their peoples . Stop making it our problem. We have enough homeless an people of our own to take care if , we don’t need more.” – American affected by immigration from Kansas.
- “My fathet was an orphan at the age of 5 in Mexico City. He lived on the streets thru his teens. When he was a young adult he came legally to the US! He is proud to say, I was not in the U.S. even 5 minutes, ILLEGALLY If he can do it so can the rest of them!” – American affected by immigration from Nevada.
- “I am a legal immigrant who went through the hoops. It would be very unfair to me if the government would legalize illegals.” – American affected by immigration.
- “My wife is a legal Filipino immigrant. Because millions of illegal immigrants have taken entry level spots without legal rights millions of her countryman are denied opportunities to come here legally which directly harms her and makes us a much less diverse nation…” – American affected by immigration.
- “I am an Asian and I became a US citizen in 2005. It is not right nor fair that these illegal immigrants took advantage of how our government is not implementing the laws that cause us a lot of trouble and even stealing a lot of jobs that the citizens could have it and funded by welfare too, it is too much. Me, being a citizen, could hardly even get my brothers and sisters for it will take 10-15 years to have them come here legally. It is injustice and lawlessness combine not humanitarian aspect for they have not done their side to respect the law being a human.” – American affected by immigration from Nevada.
- “Fifteen years ago , this now retired airman fell in love with a Vietnamese national. Plans for marriage set. We filed countless reams of paperwork, paid more money than I care to count. Fought two governments and their embassies. Background checked, families background checked. Medical tests. We married and now have two children. The youngest is 5 yrs, the oldest is 8 yrs.. My wife became a baptized Christian, and LEGAL CITIZEN. If she can do it why can’t the millions coming every year?” – American affected by immigration from Massachusetts.
- “America is often titled the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. The concept of Freedom does not include a guarantee of prosperity — only opportunity. The best cure for poverty is and always has been a job. We need to get the percentage of legal Americans working to increase and reduce the number of illegal immigrants. I am all for legal immigration as long as we instill a sense of fair play, citizenship and a hard work ethic in those who would seek to become Americans. If you want this privilege you need to assimilate not expect the country to accommodate… It’s a struggle but it’s worth it. Hand outs are a sure fire way to ensure a perpetual cycle of poverty and a diminished version of that Dream.” – American affected by immigration from Kentucky.
- “I am the child of *legal* immigrants. The government’s refusal to enforce our laws is an insult to my fine parents who obeyed those laws and worked a lifetime to raise and educate a family. As I struggle to raise my own family I bear the tax burden of supporting illegal families also.” – American affected by immigration from Michigan.
- “I am the child of *legal* immigrants. The government’s refusal to enforce our laws is an insult to my fine parents who obeyed those laws and worked a lifetime to raise and educate a family. As I struggle to raise my own family I bear the tax burden of supporting illegal families also.” – American affected by immigration from Rhode Island.
- “Deport all Illegals and their families, Let them come back legally, It is BS saying we can’t afford to do that. In New Jersey we are 4th of the 50 states with Illegals. The education of the children, the free healthcare and free housing and free food is too big of a burden on us taxes payers… No amesty, enforce the laws we have. Stop tying the hands of our border security and ICE.” – American affected by immigration from New Jersey.
- “I have traveled in almost every continent on God’s planet and it never ceases to amaze me upon landing that all the passengers are herded to customs?? Every country I have visited has this strange fixation of granting permission for all visitors? Why is our grand America the only country that allows anyone to not only visit, but to permanently stay without permission and thereby illegally! Enforce our laws, PERIOD! SEMPER FIDELIS” – American affected by immigration from Texas.
- “I been in a battle trying to reunite with my wife for 18 months now on a immigration issue even though we been doing it the right way. How is it fair that illegals are getting more rights than me and my wife? That’s garbage and that is not right. It’s an insult to those who are doing it the legal way and a bigger insult to those who are still separated from their loved one despite trying to do it the legal way.” – American affected by immigration from New York.
- “I don’t mind people coming to this country legally but if you’re not here legally you should be sent back and go through the process like everyone else. It’s not fair to the ones that work hard to become citizens if you come here without going through the right process you are breaking the law and who ever knows about it and does nothing is breaking the law also we have too many American citizens who need help more than these illegal immigrants not doing the right thing I blame our congress for not doing their job. We have lots of poor citizens in this country that need help first, not to mention veterans who get pushed to the side.” – American affected by immigration from Louisiana.
- “It is ridiculous to let this many refugees in at one time. They are all in need and America can’t help the many Americans that are in need. Besides that, with the problem of ISIS and radical islamists the chance of danger is too real to be ignored. They are not vetted. When immigrants are let in to America they have proof of their income and back ground.” – American affected by immigration from Virginia.
- “My family emigrated to the US in Nov. 1954. We were supposed to come here in May, but had to wait six months because of a quota. I am very much an American and nothing upsets me more than all these illegals coming here and taking our jobs. My father had a job waiting for him when he got here and he never took any help from the government. My parents bought a house in 1956 and paid it off in 9 years due to many sacrifices they had to make. We also became citizens as soon as the law allowed. I love this country but we need to make changes to the immigration situation and many other problems facing us today.” – American affected by immigration from Oregon.
- “I have no problem with immigrants coming in the front door with proof of idenity and having background checks done prior to entry. We as life long Americans have to prove ourselves in numerous situations including where we live…” – American affected by immigration from New Jersey.
- “Seal the border. Enact a guest worker system. Reform the ‘formula’ as to legally immigrate to this country. Enforce laws regarding overstaying VISAs!” – American affected by immigration from Indiana.
- “Legal immigrants are dismayed at others trying to game the system. The law needs changing, but breaking it doesn’t help anyone.” – American affected by immigration from Nevada.
- “All I ask is that it be done legally.” – American affected by immigration from California.
- “As an immigrant myself, I am not against immigrants and I am not against immigration. I am simply against illegal immigration because it costs the US so much money not just in unmerited financial benefits, but in many many ways which are bankrupting this country. There is no need for all the benefits handed to the illegal aliens. This irrational policy serves as a magnet to other illegal aliens to come and nothing will stop them. I am certainly not a racist, I am obviously not a bigot, but I am for the truth. As the sages have said, the truth is bitter but that is the sweetness of it.” – American affected by immigration from Virginia.
- “It is time for illegal aliens to go back to their country of origin and apply to come legally. It isn’t fair that I spent thousands of dollars and years getting my wife and her family into the US legally and these people get to break our laws and be rewarded for it. I speak Spanish, I spend a good deal of time in Mexico, and I even have a home and an office in Monterrey but I will never advocate giving criminals legal status. It isn’t fair to me, it isn’t fair to those who do it legally, it isn’t fair to our country.” – American affected by immigration from Texas.
- “I grew up in Southern California and live in San Diego county. California, my home, is virtually unrecognizable compared to how it looked in the 60’s and 70’s. I was going to attend my daughter’s school athletic orientation which was held on two nights. I later found out that the night my work schedule allowed for was Spanish only. Many parts of San Diego County can only be compared to Guatemala City. We are being overrun!” – American affected by immigration from California.
- “I am 1/2 first generation American. My Mother was born here but both her parents were Italian immigrants. My Father immigrated here from Armenia in 1912 at age 5. So he and both my grandparents had to be sponsored to enter the country and had to register as legal resident aliens until they each obtained [earned!] their citizenship. My grandfather spoke pretty good English, Grandma just enough to become a citizen. So, between them Italian was the primary language. However, they had 9 children, my mother among them. When the family was all together my grandfather would often remind all [even his wife!] that English was to be spoken. For sure, the kids knew Italian as well, but my Grandfather insisted that his children would have English as their primary language. Being multi-lingual is great and I wish I learned either Italian or Armenian. Nevertheless as a country with all the government sanctioned multilingualism, we are on the road to becoming a national tower of babel.” – American affected by immigration from Massachusetts.
- “For more than 2 centuries people came to America to BECOME Americans. They learned our language, customs, morals and ethics. It made our country the greatest in the world. Obama threw that out the window by allowing an invasion across open borders. Now illegals and felons can vote just like tax-paying, law-abiding Americans. Enough!” – American affected by immigration from Florida.
- “I migrated to the USA in 1964 at the age of eight. And I think we should go back to the policies & laws that made this country great- a controlled LEGAL immigration.” – American affected by immigration from Florida.
- “If you come here legally, to be an American and assimilate and learn the language and laws, fine! If you come here for any other reason, stay out. We don’t need you. And don’t come here and try to re-create your country here. If you love your country so much, stay there.” – American affected by immigration from Louisiana.
- “Immigration is most successful when it is coupled with sponsorship and assimilation.” – American affected by immigration.
- “Immigrants of the past generations came for the opportunities this country offered them, not handouts. They worked hard to give their kids a better life and a sense of pride. Assimilation from many, one gave us the recognition of a melting pot. Now all they generate are little countries within our country. If they succeed in bringing in that which they were running from, where will they go next once they bring this country down? What was the purpose of their coming here in the first place?” – American affected by immigration from California.
- “Someone said America is the great melting pot! This is true, but we don’t need to scoot over and give illegal aliens everything that we have. We should accept the ones who apply for citizenship and learn our ways in order to come here to live. We shouldn’t have to roll over and let anyone who wants to make money send it back to their country.” – American affected by immigration from West Virginia.
- “I’m all for legal immigration. If you go through the process, welcome to America. If not, you don’t have any right to be here. We already have enough problems without you.” – American affected by immigration.
- “I am all for LEGAL immigration with all nations having equal opportunity. We need to figure out how many our economy can handle without allowing those new immigrants to enter welfare rolls. Amnesty just says if you come here illegally manage to hide for 10-20 years all illegal activity will be forgiven. So more come in illegally and use legal fraud to create anchor babies, then demand special treatment because they do not even show enough respect to learn to speak, read and write English. So we wind up paying more school taxes to provide special help.” – American affected by immigration from Pennsylvania.
- “Americans that are here for generations came here legally. My family came thru Ellis Island as many did. I have no problem with people coming here it used to be a wonderful country, but today they come and hurt us and try to change our culture. They take jobs from Americans. AMERICANS are first above all… no jobs, no welfare, no housing, no medical for free… Americans FIRST!!!” – American affected by immigration from New York.
- “Please only allow legal immigrants. No mass legalizations, no bringing in of 10,000 Syrian refugees please. All of our families were immigrants, came legally, and learned the language. If they come, they should have to integrate, speak our language and no SANCTUARIES!!!!” – American affected by immigration from Florida.
- “I am a second generation American. All of my grandparents immigrated to America from Sicily in the early 1900s. They learned to speak English, they were too proud to take a handout, and they worked hard to build a life in the land of opportunity… Close the borders, throw out the illegals and stop the free stuff giveaways!!!” – American affected by immigration from Massachusetts.
- “I want immigrants to be contributors to the USA. They need to have skills that our country needs, they need to have a purpose.” – American affected by immigration.
- “It’s way past time for us Americans to stand up to every type of immigrant class. I don’t care what race, creed or color they are. If they come to live in America as citizens to be then they shall, not should, abide by all of our laws and ways of life. They can have their religions in their own buildings but when they leave their houses of worship and homes, they are required to act and talk like Americans. They can even complain like we Americans do now. But if it is not on the best interest of all, then, if they don’t like it bad enough, it’s time for them to go back to where they came from.” – American affected by immigration from Kentucky.
- “I have absolutely no problem with people wanting to emigrate here and try build a better life for themselves and their families, but hey, quit trying to slide in through the back door. Be responsible, face up to your responsibilities and come in through the front door. That means, going back to your own country, filling out the proper paperwork, going through the official channels, paying for a visa and legally being welcomed into the U.S. I did and renew that green card every 10 years. What makes you so special that you think that the same rules don’t apply and you can just come here and expect to be given everything without following the rules? Step up. Man up and quit expecting to be given everything!” – American affected by immigration from Alabama.
- “Yes, I am a full time student trying to better my life, and I am also married to a Filipino national. I have been trying to get my wife and two sons (one a Filipino national and one a U.S. citizen) over to the states. I have had to jump through every hoop that was given to me and yet our Commander and Chief along with Congress, wish to allow these illegal aliens to enter our country without having to have a background check done on them, and allow them to attend high school along with colleges free of charge. Well, not totally free because the American citizens will be picking up the tab for them. Now I understand that they would like to live the American dream, but they should have to do it the legal way and no one in power should allow them to skip steps to enter. It is not fair to the rest of us that is trying to do it the legal way and they get a handout. If you wish to give out free education give it to the born Americans and if you wanna give out money give that to our vets who have stepped up and answered the call to arms to defend this great country.” – American affected by immigration from Massachusetts.
- “This country was built by immigrants from other countries, but it seems to me that we are letting the illegals take over. I thought to come into this country you needed to study the constitution, learn to speak English and then take the test to become a citizen. Most of the illegals can’t speak a word of English. They should have to learn our language instead of us learning theirs. I don’t even understand why they can come to this country to give birth to children so that makes them citizens, I don’t think so. And as far as the jobs, give them to vets or teens, not to illegals who would denounce our flag.” – American affected by immigration from West Virginia.
- “We need to allow only legal immigrants into the country. Illegal immigration should not be tolerated. There is no reason we should have to financially support those who cross the border illegally. Nor should they be taking jobs from citizens. Certainly all who enter the country should be vetted so no criminals come here and continue to commit crimes against citizens, bring drugs, or collect welfare. Illegal immigrants are a burden on taxpayers and could potentially be a security threat. There is only one Constitution and Bill of Rights. Nobody should come here and make demands or create their own laws or Bill of Rights. Our country and our laws need to be respected and obeyed. The border should be secured and immigration laws strictly enforced. Servicemen made sacrifices and some died serving our country. Illegal immigrants should not expect to receive what they did not contribute to. Our servicemen provided the rights and freedoms we have. Illegal immigrants should not twist our laws to their advantage and demand what is belongs to citizens and legal residents. Illegal immigrants are not about giving, they are about taking what is not theirs. There is a legal way to come here. That should be the only way.” – American affected by immigration from Massachusetts.
- “I was born and raised here in California 64 years ago. And now it is like I live in a foreign country, I don’t see Americans, just different little country in the state of California. The foreigners don’t want to assimilate to our culture, they just want to force us into their culture, they demand their rights? What about the American’s right?!” – American affected by immigration from California.
- “I live in Florida — ever been to Miami? You are looked down on by everybody around you if you speak English anywhere in that town.” – American affected by immigration from Florida.
- “The U.S. Visa application should not take longer than 10 years.” – American affected by immigration.
- “I migrated with my family to the USA back in 1981. My family (seven of us) came to this great country legally and the whole process took a good ten years. I have great appreciation for this country and we as a family have absolutely no regrets coming here using the legal process. I feel that it is unfair that illegal immigrants receive any American rights while disrupting and lengthening the legal process. Illegal aliens should not be allowed to cut in line of immigrants using legal avenues. Illegal immigrants should be made to work till they earn enough money to be deported back to their countries.” – American affected by immigration.
- “I was a victim of a marriage fraud for green card. These are long term frauds that’s purpose is not just a green card, but they seek to take everything from you that start their new life.” – American affected by immigration.
- “I’m a legal immigrant, meaning, I had to undergo all the scrutiny and cost that comes with applying for a visa to enter the U.S. legally.” – American affected by immigration.
- “I was a victim of marriage fraud for benefits by Shyam Singh, of Trinidad and Tobago. Married 2x in 4 months time after visa expired in Sept. 2014. May have used VAWA against me. Lied to me, was emotionally abusive and slandered and harassed me to the point I got a restraining order. But USCIS has done nothing and he is a violent man. I have reported him, filed a FOIA with USCIS and he still hangs out in Daytona Beach with his new fraud wife who is in on the fraud. Both use drugs heavily, play in a band for cash and he had lined up and used another woman, who is now working with me to get him deported for our personal safety. USCIS needs serious reform and illegals need to go home.” – American affected by immigration.
- “I am a OIF/OEF Veteran from 2002-2011. I met my wife on my first deployment who is an Italian citizen. We decided to get married and have kids. While I was on active duty fighting for this country I had to PAY for her fees to USCIS and go through the LEGAL process. Why do I have have pay and people come here illegally and get it for free? Why are Cubans getting 9 months of salary to come here LEGALLY?” – American affected by immigration.
- “Limited legal immigration only. Look back to Operation Wetback of the early 50’s. Take away the many ways they are welcomed and rewarded and they will have no reason to come or stay.” – American affected by immigration.
- “Thank you America for accepting me and my wife as legal immigrants. We both are working very hard 24/7 to be not a burden and contribute to the economy.” – American affected by immigration.
- “Make it here legally and enjoy your life. Enter illegally and be sent back forever — banned from entering.” – American affected by immigration.
- “If immigrants coming to the USA like me they have to be legal, work, go to school, don’t commit crime, and pay tax, but they can’t come drain the welfare system by lying about their income. I’m a cashier and see them coming to my lane every day. They have tons of cash yet no social security? Please, I work very hard. I don’t even see that kind of money and also they are very racist to whites and Middle Eastern. They won’t hire you if you don’t speak Spanish. I’m sorry in America we all speak English. They are so good at ripping the systems off yet no time to learn English? OK, that’s my opinion and I’m Persian.” – American affected by immigration.
- “I’m an immigrant myself, and I got to the United States legally. Back in my country I was offered to get here illegally through Mexico, which I refused because for me there’s always a right way to reach success in life. Since I started working here I’ve been paying taxes, thinking always in the future of my kids, because I know they deserve the best and everything I couldn’t have in my younger years. I do not support that other immigrants just get here to take advantage of the government and don’t even try to legalize their status at any point because in their minds it’s more easy to get all the benefits offered from this great nation with little or not effort. Because I work and support my family my kids won’t probably get a chance to get a scholarship if an undocumented student apply as well to the same, because now they have priority to get student privileges such as state tuition and more.” – American affected by immigration.
- “Legal immigration is fine. However, the illegal entry into our country has dangers too many to mention. And the problem is clear and obvious. The liberal policy of allowing this to go on is immoral.” – American affected by immigration.
- “The immigration issue and combating problems runs deep. The number of immigrants achieving legal status through fraudulent marriage is a big problem too, but it’s a lower priority for officials. My family has big issues with a person who got his green card through marriage through payment to an American citizen and was divorced immediately after he got his green card. He is a real menace to society because where he comes from laws are meant to be broken. This guy has 3 children by different mothers, had not married any of them. He preys on illegal immigrants, which having been one himself for so long is really disgusting. Americans are raised with a strong sense of law and order and justice, but it’s not like that in a lot of other countries. The people who come into our country illegally many times add heavily to the criminal element. When we looked at ICE policies and made a report about this individual, there is no interest in individuals like this as they fly under the radar and are considered to be essentially legal. This guy never plans to request citizenship, just to disappear with his green card until he can get married to a U.S. citizen, and he is such a scam artist. Some poor woman is really in for it. He is also endorsing this behavior with all if his friends. I just wish someone would review this persons’ situation and see what has happened. A person like this who has cheated a system that is meant for people who really intend to form a permanent marriage. My wife is from another country and we are married for life. Hate to see someone taking this U.S. citizen privilege and making money off of it, encouraging it, treating it as a joke, and knowing no one is checking. Even when it’s reported. This is something that our country has records of and should monitor closely, but just lets it go. I guess the border crisis consumes resources, but to me this is a big part of the crisis because it shows our own systems don’t work but provide an easy way to residency for those who are not authentic. I know this is widespread. So the problem continues — I am currently unemployed after a big layoff, and people like this have great American jobs by the thousands. Give me the job to check on residents by marriage to see if they made their two year mark and work on stripping their status if they have not. I believe the number will be staggering. We would give jobs back to thousands of those who are deserving. No one hears about this side of the issue. It goes unreported.” – American affected by immigration.
- “It’s time for fair immigration!” – American affected by immigration.
- “Planned immigration is best for everyone, especially immigrants and minorities. What we now have is a chaos.” – American affected by immigration.
- “The system is all messed up. I have been in this country since 1955. I had a green card and entered as a permanent resident. I have a social security card, and have been paying income tax and SS for over 50 years. A few years ago, I lost my green card and the immigration dept. won’t replace it. Without the card I can’t renew my drivers license which I have had since 1959. I came to America from England, I obey all laws. I don’t get any government benefits, I don’t need them.” – American affected by immigration.
- “I was a supervisor for Staples for 30 plus years. I had a young Spanish lady that worked for me through a temp agency. She was here legally with a work permit. She worked hard and went through the citizenship process. It was hard for her but she did it. I went to her swearing in ceremony and it was a beautiful thing. She was so proud and we were all proud of her. That’s the way it should be. The way it is now sickens me. She was hired as a full time employee and still works for Staples.” – American affected by immigration.
- “This country was founded and built by immigrants, but they respected this country. My maternal grandparents both came to this country from Europe. They learned the language and worked hard. They respected this land of ours. Criminals should not be rewarded with citizenship.” – American affected by immigration.
- “My mother and her family came to the USA in the 1950’s LEGALLY from El Salvador. She and her family waited their turn and started their new lives in this great country. I, being born in the USA, have benefited from my mother’s decision to come to this wonderful country. I have been able to have a successful career, own a home, and a Bachelors of Science degree. Where else in this world can something like this happen? I can just speculate the answer is nowhere.” – American affected by immigration.
- “I came to this country legally, learned English, and am a law abiding citizen. Why should others who break our laws, enter illegally, and refuse to assimilate get a free pass?” – American affected by immigration.
- “I welcome all immigrants that are PROPERLY VETTED and who WANT to become U.S. CITIZENS.” – American affected by immigration.
- “It is very clear: To survive and prosper a nation needs a common culture lacking a large number of immigrants arriving at the same time. It takes years for assimilation, several decades. If not controlled a nation will fragment and destroy itself due to a Babel of cultures and objectives.” – American affected by immigration from Nevada.
- “My husband came here the LEGAL WAY, THE ONLY WAY!! It is TIME CONSUMING, COSTLY, LOTS OF TRIPS TO ATLANTA AT OUR COST, as well as to Birmingham, Alabama.” – American affected by immigration.
- “The law is the law. Why does our executive, congress and judicial branch overlook the law? Please help restore LEGAL IMMIGRATION!!!” – American affected by immigration from Missouri.
- “Illegal means illegal. Anyone who comes here with complete disregard for American law and sovereignty has no permission to be here for one second. They are harmful, they are invaders and takers, not immigrants. They have no relationship to the waves of immigrants who lawfully came to the USA over the previous centuries, who came here to contribute, not to take, who were required to be healthy and self-sufficient. Those immigrants assimilated and obeyed law.” – American affected by immigration from New York.
- “Individuals who come into the United States legally should be welcomed, but illegal entry into the United States should NEVER happen!” – American affected by immigration from Texas.

- “It’s time for ALL immigrants to come to this country legally, like my father did when he became a citizen and the way my mother’s father did whn he became a citizen. Do it legally or we become a nation of lawbreakers.” – American affected by immigration from Florida.
- “I am an immigrant LEGAL. Daughter of American citizen born in New York. I came from Venezuela legally made my steps to come here more than 20 years ago. Today I am proudly an American citizen. My sister was asked by my mother in 2007 by the chaotic situation there in Venezuela communist-socialist country, they now suffer from political persecution. She hopes still has 9 years waiting because he is married with two young daughters. It is completely unfair that she is doing her paperwork legally and waiting, politicians come and give legality to those who enter here illegally, or staying illegally, while there are thousands waiting in line with legal right in the waiting line.” – American affected by immigration from Florida.
- “Another problem with illegal immigration is that it makes those new Americans who came from Mexico, Honduras, etc. the right way, look bad. If I were from say, Mexico, and legally immigrated to the United States and became a U.S. citizen, I’d be so angry and frustrated at those from my native country disrespecting the people and laws of the United States by sneaking across the border.” – American affected by immigration from Indiana.
- “We have a legal way of obtaining American citizenship in this country and many immigrants from all over the world are here legally. We could turn this whole issue into a positive one if we were to expand the immigration department-and its budget-employing an increased number of people who have been through the process to help future immigrants become legal citizens of America. Thus increasing the number of not only jobs but legal taxpayers. This could be a win-win if we were to put our heads together and have honest, emotion checked, brainstorming session open to all who care about or current situation and future of our children. The solution is not as complicated as it has been made out to be. Expand the capacity of and already established legal system making it desirable for those who want to come here can do so with ease. What is to stop our government from applying a nominal fee for the first 10 years of new citizenship? I do believe that we also need a wall on our southern border. This wall would need to be designed with 2 mile deep, cleared to the dirt only, buffer zones on each side of the wall utilizing land mines and whatever other technology we have to defend not only the wall itself but the areas in front and back of as well. Televise the live coverage of the wall 24/7/365, showing every detail, broadcast on arena size screens every few miles for entire length of wall and drones w/ cameras for live action response coverage. Any American company caught with illegal aliens on their payroll should have very steep fines to pay per alien. And for the love of God, could we please re-invigorate the American pioneering spirit that this country grew up on. I stand with those who are standing up to all of the non-sense our country has come to be complacent with. God Bless America!” – American affected by immigration from California.
- “I immigrated to the USA from Northern Ireland in1989 on an H1B Visa. Yes, that is the LEGAL way to do it. When my status changed, I had to fly my family back to the UK and resubmit for entry at the US Embassy in London, England. It took us a couple of days to submit to all sorts of medical scrutiny and background checks. Were I to do it over today, I would swim the Rio Grand …faster, easier, and a whole lot cheaper!!” – American affected by immigration from New York.
- “My grandparents came over to this country legally. They became citizens, worked, paid taxes and learned the language. They never took any kind of government assistance for anything. They always told me that when you go to a new country to live, you learn the language, customs and do everything you can do to help your new home. You do not try to change it.” – American affected by immigration from Indiana.
- “European immigrant, sponsored by a large company, never 1 minute illegally in this Country, waited 12 years for permanent residence and another 5 for citizenship. Worked from day 1, paid taxes from day 1. They made me and my family jump hoops to get approved. It is a shame that people are just allowed in by the hordes, no order, just rights. We want our Country BACK!!!!” – American affected by immigration from Nevada.
- “I left my hometown in 1985 and returned in 2002. It is no longer recognizable. The official population has declined by over 2,000 people. However, the school system has the largest enrollment of students in its history. How does this happen? It happens when the word spreads that a city of 8,000 people is a sanctuary city. That is exactly what happened while I was gone and it is continuing to this date. In this state, the property owners and law abiding U.S. citizens that are paying for the educational needs of the illegal aliens, along with medical care, food stamps, Obama-phones, and a long list of other expenses and benefits. Yet, the illegal aliens pay no property tax or income tax while our state has a 1.3 billion dollar shortfall this year. There is no assimilation, it is press one for English, it is signs in multiple languages. I hear more spanish than English in the retail stores. That is not assimilation, that is multiculturalism which is currently destroying Europe. This is America, the United States of America where English is spoken and citizens pay their taxes. It is time for the illegal aliens to come out of the shadows… so we can send them back to their country of origin! And if they come back to the USA, then it should be an automatic five years in Federal Prison.” – American affected by immigration from OKlahoma.
- “I’m second generation American. My Grandparents came here legally and became citizens. If you brake our laws getting here. You need to leave, because you’ve already shown you don’t want to be a lawful citizen. I believe any politicians that supports policy that undermine American laws should forfeit their government pay and benefits for life. No reelection for them.” – American affected by immigration from Missouri.
