FAIR Op-ed: Why America Must Remain a Melting Pot
In an op-ed published in the Asbury Park Press and other Gannett newspapers across New Jersey, I discuss why assimilating the millions of immigrants who have settled in the United States in recent decades is essential to ensuring a harmonious future in this country. “A nation is more than just a collection of random people who happen to share a defined geographical territory. A nation is defined by a common culture: A core set of beliefs, principles and language,” notes the op-ed.In order to give the assimilation process a chance to work, the United States needs to cut back substantially on the excessively high levels of immigration of recent decades. Here is FAIR’s op-ed arguing the need for assimilating new immigrants. The views of those arguing for greater multiculturalism can be read here.
