Pelosi Says Goal is to Get to Conference With Senate on Amnesty
“On Wednesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Democrats are willing to do “whatever it takes” to go to conference with the Senate to pass an immigration bill that would provide a pathway to citizenship for all of the country’s illegal immigrants,” Breitbart News writes. At a press conference where Pelosi and other Democrats introduced comprehensive immigration reform legislation that included most of the provisions in the Senate’s bill (minus some of the border security provisions), Pelosi said she was “prepared to do whatever it takes to go to conference with a joint bill” that would “stop the deportations” and provide a “path to citizenship.” She emphasized that now is the time to “rally around comprehensive immigration reform.”

13,000 Cubans Get to U.S. Through Mexico
“Under a 1995 accord, Cuban migrants who are attempting to make it to the United States just have to set foot on US soil in order to gain legal status and find themselves on an expedited path to a green card and citizenship. If they’re intercepted on the way, however, they’ll find themselves repatriated. In light of that risk and the dangers of crossing the Straits to Florida on what are often makeshift vessels, more Cubans are turning to an alternative route into the United States: the Mexican border,” the LA Times writes.”According to recently released data from US Customs and Border Protection, numbers of Cubans who seek access to the United States through ports of entry at the southern border have been back on the rise. In fiscal year 2013, 13,664 Cubans entered through there, as opposed to 8,273 in 2012 — the biggest one-year leap in nine years. In 2011 that number was 5,973.”
Calif. Gov. Signs Measure Giving Drivers’ Licenses to Illegal Aliens
“Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law Thursday a bill that gives millions of immigrants the right to drive in California. Brown, who was joined by immigrant rights advocates, community leaders, law enforcement officials and local lawmakers, signed Assembly Bill 60 around 9:45 a.m. at Los Angeles City Hall. AB 60 grants licenses to anyone who passes written and road tests, regardless of their immigration status. Before 1993, citizenship was not a requirement for holding a license,” CBS News reports.
