House Members Demand Asylum Info from DHS
“House Republicans are demanding information from the Department of Homeland Security about immigrants who win access to the U.S. by falsely claiming they are asylum seekers afraid to return to their home countries,” the Washington Examiner reports.”In a letter sent Monday to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, a copy of which was obtained by the Washington Examiner, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, a top Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, questioned whether illegal immigrants were being instructed on how to beat the immigration system by falsely claim they are in the U.S. to seek political asylum.”

“I’ve been struggling to unearth what I think is the obnoxious inegalitarian scorn that lies at the end of the devotion to seemingly free and equal open borders (on the part of the Wall Street Journal, the Cato Institute and some on the left like Matt Yglesias). Napolitano Congratulates Self in Farewell Speech
“Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano gave a farewell speech Tuesday to praise her department for its achievements and to defend it — and herself — from the criticism over border security, immigration and preparedness that plagued her four years leading the decade-old agency,” the Huffington Post writes.”Her speech was largely a list of achievements and struggles the department faced during her tenure, from the Boston Marathon bombing earlier this year to natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy. She called the Boston bombing a “despicable act of violence,” but said it showed how the federal government can work with local officials and communities to help improve safety.”
