Poll Shows Majority Want Legal Immigration Reduced
“While most voters favor citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain requirements, there is widespread agreement that new border security should come first. In addition, more than half say we should cut the number of legal immigrants allowed into the United States. A just-released Fox News poll finds 55 percent of voters think fewer legal immigrants should be accepted into the U.S. That’s up from 43 percent in 2010,” Fox News reports.
Judge Says Obama Unilateral Amnesty Likely to be Blocked
“A court challenge by federal immigration agents seeking to block President Barack Obama’s deferred-deportation initiative will probably succeed, a judge said.”“U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Dallas today put off his own decision on whether to grant the request for a preliminary injunction by 10 U.S. Immigration and Customs agents. He asked both sides to file additional arguments no later than May 6,” Bloomberg News says.”Announced by Obama and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano last year, the directive gives agents the ability to defer action on people unlawfully in the U.S. if they came to the country under the age of 16, are in school or have obtained a high school diploma, haven’t been convicted of a felony, significant misdemeanor or multiple misdemeanors, and aren’t a threat to public safety or national security.”
Boston Bombers, Rest of Family Got Welfare
“Marathon bombings mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev was living on taxpayer-funded state welfare benefits even as he was delving deep into the world of radical anti-American Islamism, the Herald has learned. State officials confirmed last night that Tsarnaev, slain in a raging gun battle with police last Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter. The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services said those benefits ended in 2012 when the couple stopped meeting income eligibility limits,” the Boston Herald reports.
Schlafly: Security Isn’t Just About the Border
“The Boston bombing crime shows that comprehensive immigration reform should not be only a southern border problem or even just a problem of illegal aliens. It’s also a problem of foreigners who are admitted legally but should never have been admitted, and of others admitted legally on a visa but are not tracked to make sure they depart when their visitor’s time expires, as U.S. law requires,” says Phyliss Schlafly.”It’s long overdue for Congress to have a series of hearings on the loopholes, broken promises and disobeyed laws involving both legal and illegal entry into the United States. It would be useful to reinstate the House Committee on Un-American Activities so we can have a look at those in our midst who may be jihadists or dupes of violent Muslim indoctrination or (in old Communist lingo) fellow travelers or useful idiots.”
How Can Feds Screen 11 Million People?
“The 11 million immigrants in the country illegally would have to pass national-security and criminal-background checks before receiving legal status under an immigration overhaul bill the Senate is considering, but some critics say the federal government would have a hard time adequately screening such a large number of people. Federal immigration officials conducting the background checks also would have difficulty screening out potential terrorists because the checks are limited to information contained in government databases and terrorist-watch lists, critics say,” the Arizona Republic reports.”To give amnesty to millions — without knowing whether some of them want to do us harm — is to jeopardize American lives,” Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, said in a written statement. “We should go slow before making any changes to immigration policy that don’t put the interests of Americans first.”
