RedState.com Nails It: Immigration Policy Is about Picking Winners
SHARES
A RedState.com blog effectively takes the ethnic advocacy network’s opposition to eliminating the so-called Visa Lottery to task, calling their arguments “equal parts stupid and noxious.” In particular, they cite a statement by Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) asserting that our immigration policy has no business picking and choosing immigrants based on any objective assessment of which ones are most likely to benefit our nation. For the record, FAIR strongly supports elimination of the Visa Lottery but opposes the STEM Jobs Act cited in the RedState blog for very different reasons than Rep. Gutierrez. Nevertheless, we applaud the folks at RedState for pointing out the obvious: Choosing people who are best equipped to succeed in our country is precisely the purpose of our immigration policy – or at least it should be.
