Is the Border Under Control?
One statistic does not prove a trend, but the federal government is currently citing a significant increase in illegal aliens who are being smuggled into the country and held hostage in “stash houses” in Texas. The New York Times reported on May 26 that, “In the federal Customs and Border Protection’s Rio Grande Valley sector — a large area of Southeast Texas that includes Edinburg, Brownsville and McAllen — more than 2,000 illegal immigrants have been apprehended this fiscal year in nearly 80 stash houses, up from 1,012 in 69 stash houses in the entire 2011 fiscal year.” If the border were truly under control, as the administration would like the public to believe, this would not be the case.
